Senior Business Applications Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead stakeholder discovery through interviews and process walkthroughs.

• Define problem statements, identify affected users, and establish success measures.

• Recommend native features, Workato, or custom automation solutions.

• Design secure, human-centered, API-first, and event-driven solutions.

• Oversee solutions from design and construction through testing, release, monitoring, support, and retirement.

• Develop and maintain Workato recipes and connectors with robust error handling and monitoring.

• Create custom automation tools and AWS middleware.

• Design and refine workflows, custom fields, automations, and service management configurations in Jira, JSM, and Confluence.

• Architect and manage the Workato citizen development platform, including frameworks, templates, connectors, service accounts, and sandboxes.

• Evaluate team-built automations against established guardrails.

• Enforce least-privilege access and secure credential practices.

• Act as the technical escalation point and mentor for IT Admins and AI Admins.

• Utilize Glean, Rovo, Claude, Gemini, and Bedrock to meet business automation needs.

• Write runbooks, design documents, and handoff materials.

• Report on delivery velocity, integration reliability, and user adoption to the Senior Manager and stakeholders.

• Exemplify integrity, process improvement, and customer satisfaction.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

• 5+ years of experience in IT, business systems engineering, integration, or automation engineering.

• 3+ years of experience in building and supporting production integrations or automations.

• Experience supporting a distributed or remote-first workforce.

• Proven experience in owning solutions from requirements gathering through to production support.

• Demonstrated ability to lead complex, high-impact projects with minimal supervision.

• Hands-on experience in building and maintaining integrations on an iPaaS platform, preferably Workato.

• Proficient understanding of APIs, webhooks, data models, REST, and event-driven integration patterns.

• Ability to write custom code or scripts.

• Hands-on experience in engineering workflows, custom fields, and automations in Jira, JSM, Confluence, or similar platforms.

• Experience in gathering requirements from non-technical teams and creating design documents along with testable acceptance criteria.

• Understanding of RBAC, least-privilege access, service accounts, and data privacy.

• Experience mentoring junior engineers or administrators.

• Ability to articulate design decisions and trade-offs clearly in written form.

• Experience with Jira, Jira Service Management, Confluence, Workato or similar iPaaS, APIs, webhooks, REST, event-driven integration patterns, Python, JavaScript, Ruby, and cloud middleware such as AWS Lambda, API Gateway, or EventBridge.

• Relevant certifications and experience with governed citizen development, JSM service catalogs, AI platforms, SOC 2 environments, or high-growth SaaS/cybersecurity companies are a plus.
