Senior Backend Engineer, Node.js

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• Develop and deploy resilient backend services that have a significant impact on products.

• Ensure that systems are scalable, efficient, and easy to manage.

• Work collaboratively with teams to integrate services and provide comprehensive value.

• Transform business domains into well-structured, efficient data models.

• Guide and mentor fellow engineers on best practices.

• Collaborate with engineers and take the lead on technical deliveries for projects or domains.

• Exemplify excellence in engineering, pragmatism, and collective ownership.

• Introduce new features, enhance existing functionalities, and refine the product.

• Partner with Developers, Designers, Quality Engineers, DevOps Engineers, and Product Owners to create the platform.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of practical experience in delivering products using TypeScript (and JavaScript).

• Strong backend development proficiency with Node.js.

• Extensive experience in designing and integrating REST and/or GraphQL APIs.

• Comfortable working within monorepo setups and modular architecture.

• Skilled in data modeling and proficient with SQL/NoSQL databases.

• Acquainted with testing methodologies, performance enhancement, and scalable design principles.

• Proactive, results-oriented, and enthusiastic about working in a rapidly growing tech scale-up.

• Confident in making architectural choices and articulating trade-offs.

• Comfortable mentoring and aiding engineers in their professional development.

• A collaborative team player who values shared success.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

• Nice to have: experience with Keycloak or other identity management solutions.

• Nice to have: familiarity with Vue.js or other front-end frameworks.

• Nice to have: knowledge of rendering technologies such as ffmpeg.

• Nice to have: interest in motion graphics and visual effects software like After Effects.

• Nice to have: experience with GitLab CI/CD, DevOps practices, and public cloud services such as GCP.
