Senior Backend Engineer, NodeJS

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nigeria.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and sustain scalable, secure, and high-performance backend services utilizing Node.js and TypeScript.

• Create and manage RESTful APIs while integrating with both internal and external services.

• Architect and enhance data models and services using PostgreSQL/MySQL, MongoDB, and Redis.

• Construct reliable, maintainable, and thoroughly tested software, including unit, integration, and API testing.

• Design and advance scalable architectures, encompassing microservices and event-driven systems.

• Deploy and manage backend services in AWS/cloud environments through CI/CD and containerization.

• Monitor and fine-tune applications for performance, scalability, availability, and reliability.

• Collaborate with Product, Frontend, QA, DevOps, and other teams to ensure seamless integration.

• Engage in code reviews, technical design discussions, and architectural decisions.

• Mentor and offer technical support to junior and mid-level engineers.

• Utilize AI-assisted development tools to enhance productivity, code quality, testing, and problem-solving capabilities.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience with over 5 years of professional backend/software engineering experience.

• Extensive hands-on experience with Node.js and TypeScript.

• Experience with Python is a plus, especially in AI/ML, automation, and data-intensive applications.

• AI-native experience is a significant advantage, including the integration of AI APIs, RAG, agents, embeddings, or similar technologies.

• Strong background in designing and developing REST APIs and integrating with internal and external services.

• Familiarity with relational and NoSQL databases, particularly PostgreSQL/MySQL and MongoDB.

• Experience with infrastructure and deployment tools.

• Knowledge of Redis or other caching technologies.

• Solid understanding of microservices, distributed systems, and event-driven architecture.

• Experience with AWS/cloud platforms, Docker, Git, and CI/CD practices.

• Proficiency in automated testing and writing clean, maintainable, production-ready code.

• Strong grasp of security, authentication, authorization, and API best practices.

• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude, or ChatGPT.
