Senior Backend Engineer, Integrations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Austria.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services utilizing PHP and Go.

• Lead the extraction of services from the monolithic architecture by establishing boundaries, ownership, and migration strategies.

• Partner with the Product Manager to guide technical direction and enhance the value of backend services.

• Create and deploy APIs for agentic interfaces, AI agents, and automated workflows.

• Enhance page speed and overall performance alongside frontend colleagues.

• Make contributions to overarching architectural decisions.

• Leverage AI tools to expedite code delivery.

• Gradually extract services with clear ownership while minimizing disruption to delivery.

• Optimize page speed, latency, and overall uptime.

• Facilitate dependable access to the domain through well-structured APIs.

• Support AI-assisted development while ensuring code quality and ownership standards.

• Work collaboratively across functions with Product and Design teams to influence product direction.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 6 years of experience as a Backend Engineer.

• Solid foundation in software engineering principles.

• Advanced proficiency in PHP and/or Golang, with a readiness to work in both languages.

• Experience in designing and managing high-traffic, customer-facing systems.

• Background in decomposing monoliths or extracting services.

• Experience in designing REST, GraphQL, or similar APIs, focusing on clarity, versioning, and usability.

• Familiarity with event-driven service-oriented architectures and principles of Domain Driven Design (DDD).

• Proficient in utilizing AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot.

• Experience in a cloud environment; knowledge of AWS is advantageous.

• Familiarity with message queues like AWS SQS is a plus.

• Must be located within the EMEA region.
