Senior Backend Engineer, Core APIs – SRE Focus

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and enhance backend systems for real-time data processing and web services.

• Establish and manage SLIs and SLOs for Core API services, utilizing error budgets to balance deployment speed and system stability.

• Create and uphold observability through metrics, structured logging, distributed tracing, and alerting mechanisms.

• Engage in a shared on-call rotation and address incidents as they arise.

• Facilitate blameless postmortems and ensure the completion of incident action items.

• Automate repetitive manual tasks to minimize operational burdens.

• Carry out capacity planning, load testing, and performance optimization.

• Investigate issues with features, determine root causes, run experiments, and implement engineering enhancements.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate backend components effectively.

• Promote engineering best practices and cultivate a reliability-focused culture.

• Mentor fellow developers.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in backend development, including significant periods operating the built systems in production.

• Proven experience with formal SRE practices, including error budget policies, capacity models, production readiness assessments, and chaos or fault injection testing.

• Demonstrated expertise in GoLang and/or Node.js, with an eagerness to learn.

• Strong background in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable backend architectures.

• Experience in building and refining APIs, real-time data processing systems, and microservices frameworks.

• Practical experience with Docker and Kubernetes.

• Familiarity with Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.

• Proficient in observability tools such as Datadog or similar monitoring, logging, and tracing platforms.

• Experience in participating in an on-call rotation.

• Strong knowledge of SQL and familiarity with DynamoDB, Redis, or Elasticsearch.

• Proficient with Git, IDEs, shell scripting, and CI/CD processes.

• Fluent in English.

• Ability to work autonomously while effectively collaborating as part of a team.

• Strong commitment to mentoring and developing junior team members.
