Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, construct, and maintain scalable and dependable backend services that process financial transactions for Jeeves customers in over 20 countries.

• Develop clean, testable, production-grade code using Go, Python, or Node.js/TypeScript; engage in design and code review processes.

• Create and utilize RESTful and GraphQL APIs; architect inter-service communication with gRPC, message queues, and event-driven architectures.

• Design and enhance PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis schemas for accuracy, performance, and scalability.

• Take ownership of backend features from initial scoping and technical design to deployment, monitoring, and iterative improvements.

• Implement authentication, authorization, input validation, and data protection across distributed services.

• Integrate LLM API calls, such as OpenAI and Anthropic, into backend services as reliable, observable, and cost-effective product features.

• Develop secure backend pipelines for AI-generated outputs, ensuring validation, fallbacks, and graceful degradation.

• Collaborate with AI and data science teams to incorporate model outputs into backend APIs.

• Utilize AI coding tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, and Cursor in daily development activities.

• Instrument services with structured logging, distributed tracing, and metrics for performance monitoring.

• Participate in on-call rotations, respond to production incidents, and contribute to post-incident analyses.

• Enhance CI/CD pipelines, testing infrastructure, and deployment methodologies.

• Collaborate with engineering, product, compliance, and data teams across various time zones and regions.

• Contribute to documentation, asynchronous design reviews, and provide feedback on pull requests.

• Bring insights from regional LATAM customers to product and engineering discussions.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of professional backend engineering experience in building and operating production systems.

• Proficient in English — professional fluency is necessary for daily interactions with global teams in both written and spoken formats.

• Strong expertise in at least one backend programming language: Go, Python, or Node.js/TypeScript.

• Experience in designing and constructing RESTful APIs, microservices, and event-driven backend systems.

• Solid understanding of relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred): schema design, query optimization, and data modeling.

• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines.

• Proven ability to reliably integrate third-party APIs in production environments, including error management, retry logic, and observability.

• Experience working in globally distributed teams across different time zones and regions.

• Comfortable using AI tools as an integral part of engineering work, integrating LLM API outputs into backend services, and utilizing AI coding assistants effectively.

• Preferred: background in fintech, financial services, payments, or a regulated industry; knowledge of ledger systems, payment mechanisms, or financial compliance (KYC/AML, PCI-DSS).

• Preferred: fluency in Spanish or Portuguese.

• Preferred: prior experience in a startup or rapidly growing scale-up environment.

• Preferred: experience with multi-currency systems or cross-border payment processing.

• Preferred: familiarity with message queue systems like Kafka or RabbitMQ and event-driven architecture.

• Preferred: global work experience at organizations operating across various countries and regulatory frameworks.
