Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, deploy, and maintain Spring Boot services for our SaaS ecommerce platform.

• Create secure, scalable, and highly available solutions that comply with PCI DSS and other security standards.

• Develop intuitive, backward-compatible, secure, and high-performance REST APIs.

• Collaborate with Product, QA, and engineering teams throughout the entire software development lifecycle.

• Design and optimize MySQL relational schemas, queries, and data access patterns.

• Engage in architecture discussions and influence technical decisions.

• Write clean, maintainable, and idiomatic Java utilizing modern language features.

• Advocate for code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, and thorough documentation.

• Utilize AI-assisted development tools while ensuring code correctness, security, and maintainability.

• Take ownership of features from design through to production, including monitoring and operational support.

• Work with incremental pull requests and continuous delivery methodologies.

• Enhance architecture and software development practices.

• Mentor engineers through technical leadership, design reviews, and pair programming.

• Diagnose production issues and participate in an on-call rotation as necessary.

⛳️ Requirements

• Experience operating as a senior engineer or technical lead on Java backend applications.

• Proficient in Spring Boot 3+ and the broader Spring ecosystem.

• Strong skills in modern Java, with new development focused on Java 25.

• Ability to write clean, idiomatic Java using streams, lambda expressions, Optional, records, and pattern matching.

• Experience with Hibernate/JPA or jOOQ.

• Practical experience building and managing production workloads on AWS.

• Proven track record in designing and creating RESTful APIs.

• Strong SQL skills, particularly with MySQL or PostgreSQL.

• Familiarity with asynchronous messaging systems such as SQS, RabbitMQ, or ActiveMQ.

• Experience in building and deploying containerized applications.

• Proficient in using GitHub Actions or other contemporary CI/CD platforms.

• Hands-on professional experience with AI coding tools.

• Understanding of software design principles and distributed systems.

• Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities.

• Proven history of mentoring engineers and spearheading technical initiatives.

• Self-driven and effective in a remote-first work environment.

• Preferred: experience with multi-tenant SaaS applications.

• Preferred: knowledge of Terraform, GitOps, AWS services, React or Angular, payment processing, PCI DSS, API security, TDD, AI-assisted development practices, or C#/.NET.
