Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the backend for the product, encompassing API design, data modeling, query performance, and strategic architectural decisions.

• Manage queues, background tasks, scheduled operations, along with retry and error-handling mechanisms.

• Oversee AI pipelines, which include versioned prompts, evaluations, and budget considerations for cost and latency.

• Guarantee stable operations during outages or failures from model providers.

• Construct reporting and analytics pipelines to ensure reliable, cross-location data access.

• Integrate Bounti with point-of-sale, workforce scheduling, and payroll systems.

• Create a unified integration layer rather than multiple ad hoc connectors.

• Implement idempotency, reconciliation, customer-specific alerts, and drift detection mechanisms.

• Manage relationships with technical partners, including access to sandboxes, certification programs, and API assessments.

• Develop internal tools for the Customer Success team to troubleshoot failed syncs and activate integrations.

• Collaborate closely with the VP of Engineering, VP of Customer Success, and Product Engineers.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in building and managing production backend systems.

• Familiarity with handling partial failures and implementing eventual consistency.

• Knowledge of retries, idempotency, and reconciliation processes.

• Proficient in working with third-party/vendor APIs.

• Experience in managing agents and being accountable for their outcomes.

• Ability to differentiate between high-quality output and output that only seems plausible.

• Experience with TypeScript, Node.js, Postgres, Prisma, and Kubernetes is advantageous.

• Practical experience in operating LLM features in production, including evaluation and cost management, is a plus.

• Experience in creating observability for systems that are not entirely under your control is a plus.

• Proven track record in navigating a partner certification or app review process from beginning to end is a plus.

• Experience in the hospitality, retail, or workforce tooling sectors is beneficial.

• Proficiency in the German language.
