Senior Assessment Designer – ELA, Science

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Offer expertise in ELA and Science regarding the application of NWEA assessment data in teaching and learning.

• Create content that encourages the appropriate and consistent use of HMH/NWEA products and data.

• Assess, evaluate, and refine materials for HMH and Heinemann products, such as Into Math, Into Reading, and Waggle.

• Lead projects, monitor deliverables for timeliness and quality, and communicate updates and concerns along with proposed solutions to leadership.

• Develop and sustain high-quality assessment items and passages that are aligned with standards, frameworks, resources, checklists, specifications, and style guides.

• Contribute to process documentation and assess inventories of passages or item banks.

• Act as an ELA and Science subject matter expert while working with both internal and external stakeholders.

• Consult with program management, attend pertinent meetings, and monitor project progress.

• Implement evidence-based and equitable practices in product strategies and approaches.

• Lead project launch meetings and facilitate development-focused project meetings.

• Generate innovative ideas to enhance processes and procedures.

• Ensure that tasks are completed on time and within budget, adhering to financial, legal, and organizational standards.

• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to grasp and convey direction effectively.

• Support Scrum methodology throughout the division and assist with large-scale assessment and content-connection tasks.

• Conduct informational or professional development workshops and assist in training and mentoring staff.

• Develop and share expertise in development tools, software, and processes.

• Implement project changes and report when further intervention is necessary.

⛳️ Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as English Language Arts, STEM, or Education.

• A minimum of 3 years of combined subject-area teaching experience and experience as a test development specialist.

• Subject matter expertise in Science (mandatory) and English Language Arts.

• Proficiency in industry standards for assessment quality, including technical specifications for items and tests.

• Knowledge of assessment development processes for both custom and off-the-shelf products.

• Experience in writing or reviewing curriculum, with a solid understanding of the interplay between assessment and curriculum in fostering learning.

• A foundational understanding of research design, data analysis, psychometric principles, and measurement concepts.

• Background in instructional design and delivering training sessions.

• Ability to collaborate extensively with peers and cross-functional stakeholders to achieve goals.

• Aptitude for devising creative solutions to resource and scheduling challenges.

• Strong communication skills to convey project direction, progress, concerns, and proposed solutions clearly.

• Preferred but not mandatory: a master's degree in a relevant field.

• Preferred but not mandatory: 5 years of K–12 classroom teaching experience.

• Preferred but not mandatory: 3 years of experience in educational assessment.

• Must be eligible to work in the United States, as the position can be performed in any state in the U.S. and HMH participates in E-Verify.
