Senior Applied Machine Learning Engineer – Software Engineering Focus

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Develop applications adhering to 12-factor principles to create products and iterative improvements.

• Take ownership of the complete software product stack and backend services.

• Utilize test-driven development and continuous integration to guarantee product agility and quality.

• Engage in product architecture and design discussions.

• Design, build, and maintain user interfaces, APIs, backend services, and supporting infrastructure.

• Practice daily paired programming and embrace test-driven development.

• Enhance test coverage and ensure compliance with test-driven development methodologies.

• Execute product strategy while prioritizing customer needs.

• Act as a domain expert and provide leadership in at least one technology stack.

• Mentor junior team members on technologies and XP practices.

• Establish continuous integration, delivery, and deployment pipelines.

• Review deployment readiness through both automated and manual verification processes.

• Diagnose production issues and conduct root cause analysis during service outages.

• Support software products within user environments.

• Address security issues, vulnerability remediation, and compliance obligations.

• Lead and take part in team standups.

• Engage in retrospectives and identify actionable improvements.

• Partake in iteration planning meetings to coordinate on backlog stories and tasks.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 3 years of experience.

• Strong expertise in Java 17+ and Spring Boot 4.x+.

• Proficiency in Python.

• Experience in deploying GenAI and/or machine learning systems in production settings.

• Experience in building GenAI systems is a plus but not mandatory.

• Previous experience in constructing and/or maintaining CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar).

• Prior experience with MongoDB, including schema design, indexing, and performance tuning.

• Proven experience in supporting production applications, monitoring, and incident response.

• Previous experience in implementing authentication methods (OAuth, OIDC, SSO).

• Familiarity with observability platforms, logging, and application monitoring.

• Prior experience with cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP) is advantageous.

• Background investigation is required.

• Must have a dedicated, private workspace when working remotely.

• Reliable internet connection with minimum speeds of 50 MB download and 5 MB upload is required.
