Senior Appian Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, enhance, and maintain intricate Appian applications that support enterprise business processes and operational workflows.

• Spearhead remediation, conversion, and modernization initiatives for custom Appian plugins.

• Examine legacy plugin implementations and propose scalable modernization strategies.

• Resolve complex issues related to Appian applications, integrations, custom plugins, and infrastructure dependencies.

• Partner with architects and technical leaders on solution strategies, development standards, and modernization plans.

• Assist with Appian platform upgrades and remediation efforts across development, testing, and production environments.

• Offer technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to development teams.

• Engage in architecture discussions, technical design reviews, code evaluations, and implementation planning.

• Create and maintain reusable components, shared frameworks, and integration standards.

• Facilitate integrations involving APIs, web services, databases, and external enterprise systems.

• Aid in performance optimization, scalability, and operational stability initiatives.

• Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.

• Collaborate with Scrum Masters, Business Analysts, QA teams, architects, and stakeholders.

• Assist with technical estimation, release planning, dependency management, and risk identification.

• Support troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution of production or deployment challenges.

• Advocate for continuous improvement in workflows, delivery processes, and technical standards.

• Support long-term modernization strategies within complex Appian environments.

• Identify opportunities for enhancing maintainability, stability, automation, and delivery efficiency.

• Stay updated on Appian updates, emerging technologies, and best practices for modernization.

• Foster knowledge-sharing and mentorship within the Appian practice.

• Provide guidance and knowledge transfer regarding emerging Appian AI capabilities.

• Assist leadership in assessing modernization opportunities involving Appian AI and related platform functionalities.

⛳️ Requirements

• 6+ years of professional software development experience.

• Bachelor’s degree.

• 4+ years of hands-on Appian development experience.

• 4+ years of experience supporting Appian application development in Agile software delivery environments.

• 4+ years of experience troubleshooting and supporting Appian applications in self-managed/on-premises Linux environments, including navigating Appian installations and reviewing application and server logs to diagnose issues.

• 4+ years of experience supporting complex integrations involving APIs, web services, databases, and external systems.

• 4+ years of experience utilizing Git/GitLab and modern source control workflows.

• US Citizenship or Green Card is required.

• Must be able to obtain Public Trust clearance.

• Must reside in the United States and perform the work in the United States.

• Preferred: Appian Certified Senior Developer or Appian Certified Lead Developer certification.

• Preferred: Strong experience in developing, maintaining, or modernizing custom Appian plugins using Java.

• Preferred: Strong proficiency in SQL and relational database concepts.

• Preferred: Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, or containerized deployment methodologies.

• Preferred: Experience supporting AWS-hosted or cloud-native application environments.

• Preferred: Strong experience with REST/SOAP integrations, API development, and enterprise integration patterns.

• Preferred: Exposure to Appian AI capabilities, including AI Skills, AI Copilot, AI Document Processing, and AI Agents.

• Preferred: Experience supporting technical knowledge transfer and mentoring initiatives.

• Preferred: Experience contributing to architecture governance, technical standards, or modernization strategy efforts.
