Senior AI Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Design and implement comprehensive AI/ML solutions on Google Cloud utilizing Vertex AI and Gemini/LLM services.

• Create production data pipelines using BigQuery, Dataflow, and Dataproc; incorporate streaming functionalities via Pub/Sub.

• Containerize and manage workloads with Cloud Run and GKE.

• Automate CI/CD processes with Cloud Build and infrastructure as code practices.

• Establish MLOps methodologies, including experiment tracking, evaluation, bias and robustness testing, model versioning, canary and blue-green rollouts, automated retraining, drift detection, and lineage tracking.

• Implement secure-by-design strategies in accordance with NIST 800-53, RMF, and FedRAMP standards.

• Operationalize LLM/GenAI through RAG, agent/tool usage, safety filters, evaluation harnesses, and structured/unstructured data retrieval.

• Collaborate with mission stakeholders to gather requirements, define measurable success metrics, and deliver incremental value.

• Offer technical guidance and lead design and code review sessions.

• Contribute to program roadmaps and document architectures, controls, and SOPs to ensure ongoing operations.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be a U.S. citizen with the capability to secure a DoW Secret security clearance; candidates with an active Secret clearance are preferred.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical area.

• An advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in AI/ML, Data Science, Computer Science, or a closely related field is preferred but not mandatory.

• Over 8 years of overall software development/data experience with a minimum of 5 years dedicated to AI/ML engineering and MLOps, particularly involving production deployments on Google Cloud (GCP).

• Proficiency in architecting data ingestion, processing, and transformation workflows using Dataflow, Data Fusion, Dataproc, BigQuery, and Looker, integrated with Vertex AI.

• Current Google Associate Cloud Engineer (GCP-ACE) or Google Professional Cloud Architect (GCP-PCA) certification, or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire.

• At least one current DoW Cyber Baseline Certification, such as Security+ Intermediate or SecurityX/CASP+ Advanced, or the ability to attain one within 90 days of hire.

• Experience in extracting data from SAP Enterprise Business Applications.

• Proficient in Python and/or Go/TypeScript for AI services.

• Strong familiarity with Vertex AI, BigQuery, Dataflow and/or Data Fusion, GKE/Cloud Run, Cloud Build, Cloud Storage, and Pub/Sub.

• Hands-on experience with LLMs/GenAI, vector databases, prompt engineering, RAG patterns, and evaluation/guardrail strategies.

• Demonstrated MLOps expertise and solid fundamentals in data engineering.

• Ability to design with a focus on security and compliance within DoW/Federal contexts, including NIST 800-53, RMF, FedRAMP, and Zero Trust principles.

• Practical experience with Vertex AI Agent Builder, Model Garden, embeddings/vector search, and evaluation frameworks.

• Experience integrating GenAI securely within IL5 environments and familiarity with government AI platforms.
