This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Conduct monthly, quarterly, and annual general ledger closing procedures.
• Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and other balance sheet accounts.
• Analyze general ledger accounts and explore any unusual or unexpected transactions.
• Generate monthly GAAP-compliant financial statements and supporting schedules.
• Assist in the preparation of management financial reporting packages.
• Maintain comprehensive accounting records and supporting documentation.
• Identify accounting issues and propose solutions to the Controller or CFO.
• Aid in the implementation and documentation of accounting policies and procedures.
• Contribute to year-end closing, financial statement audits, tax returns, and external reporting.
• Apply accounting principles and company policies to government contract transactions.
• Support direct and indirect government contract cost accounting, manage indirect cost pools, allocation bases, and indirect rate calculations.
• Analyze labor, fringe, overhead, and general and administrative costs.
• Assist in preparing government contract cost reports and financial information related to contracts.
• Ensure compliance with relevant FAR and Cost Accounting Standards requirements.
• Maintain documentation for costs charged to government contracts.
• Identify potentially unallowable or non-reimbursable costs and ensure proper accounting treatment.
• Support audits and reviews conducted by government agencies, DCAA, independent auditors, and other external parties.
• Reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies in labor accounting.
• Collaborate with Human Resources and payroll personnel on accounting matters.
• Maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and enhance internal controls.
• Assist with internal and external audits and respond to auditor inquiries.
• Ensure confidentiality of financial, employee, customer, and contract information.
• Analyze financial data, trends, variances, and unusual activities.
• Prepare account analyses and management reports.
• Assist with monthly budget-to-actual analyses.
• Provide accounting support to management and program managers.
• Assist with financial modeling, forecasting, and special projects.
• Support the Chief of Accounting and Tax with ad hoc financial and accounting analyses.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field; an Accounting degree is strongly preferred.
• 3–7 years of progressive accounting experience with increasing responsibility.
• Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and ability to apply GAAP to actual accounting transactions.
• Solid experience with general ledger and financial statement preparation.
• Experience in preparing and reviewing account reconciliations.
• Proficient in Excel, including handling large datasets and performing financial analyses.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong attention to detail and emphasis on accuracy.
• Capability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Effective communication skills with both accounting and non-accounting personnel.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
• If applicable, a post-employment ethics letter is required for recently employed U.S. government personnel if an offer is made by VSolvit.
• Previous experience with a federal government contractor is preferred.
• Knowledge of FAR and government contract accounting regulations is preferred.
• Familiarity with DCAA audits and audit requirements is preferred.
• Experience with indirect cost pools and indirect rate calculations is preferred.
• Understanding of direct versus indirect labor and other direct and indirect costs is preferred.
• Experience with cost-reimbursable, CPFF, FFP, T&M, or other federal contract types is preferred.
• Familiarity with Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) or CAS-related requirements is preferred.
• Experience with government contract billing and cost reporting is preferred.
• Proficiency in Deltek, JAMIS, Unanet, Costpoint, Acumatica, or other ERP/accounting systems is preferred.
• CPA, CPA candidate, or other relevant professional certification is a plus.
• Proficiency in general ledger and ERP accounting systems.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables, lookups, formulas, and financial analysis.
• Experience in financial statement reporting.
• Proficient in account reconciliations.
• Experience with journal entries and accruals.
• Familiarity with fixed asset accounting.
• Knowledge in payroll accounting.
• Experience in cost accounting.
• Familiarity with government contract accounting.
• Experience in indirect rate calculations.
