This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Build and oversee SkySlope's dedicated security engineering team.
• Design and implement SkySlope's security engineering program.
• Take ownership of the security roadmap, which includes identity and credential standards, least-privilege authorization, secrets management, managed-device standards, attack-surface governance, secure SDLC, centralized logging and detection, vulnerability disclosure, and AI governance.
• Sequence and prioritize security initiatives for optimal risk reduction relative to engineering effort.
• Maintain and actively manage a visible, prioritized security-debt register.
• Make decisions regarding security tooling and vendors, including evaluation, selection, and whether to build or buy solutions.
• Provide executive reporting on program status, risk posture, and progress updates.
• Lead and engage in architecture and design reviews that are relevant to security.
• Contribute directly through proofs of concept, detection logic, automation, and reviews.
• Establish and uphold high standards for security engineering work.
• Recruit security engineers at various levels and develop a high-performing team.
• Coach and mentor direct reports focusing on personal and performance management.
• Collaborate with DevOps, IT, and product engineering to integrate actionable security standards.
• Utilize AI tooling to enhance security reviews, triage, and detection engineering.
• Define AI security guardrails and shape SkySlope's AI governance standards.
• Achieve program milestones, manage the security-debt register, nurture and retain the team, and ensure clear executive reporting.
• Proven senior/staff-level individual contributor experience in security engineering, infrastructure engineering, or platform engineering.
• Demonstrated capability to design and lead a security program or similar cross-functional technical initiative from concept to execution.
• In-depth knowledge of modern cloud security, encompassing cloud IAM, credential federation, secrets management, secure SDLC, and detection/logging.
• Experience with multi-cloud settings; depth in one cloud platform along with fluency in AWS, GCP, and Azure is acceptable.
• Strong skills in coaching and mentoring, with a history of developing engineers, including those at the early stages of their careers.
• Good judgment in making decisions regarding security tools and vendors, including build-versus-buy evaluations.
• Ability to communicate clearly and directly with both executives and engineers, both in writing and verbally.
• Passion for leveraging AI as a practical tool in security engineering.
• A pragmatic approach focused on risk reduction that leads to deployment.
• Demonstrated ability is valued; formal certifications and credentials are not mandatory.
• Capability to manage 2–4 direct reports, including security engineers at various levels.
