
Scheduling Clerk – Surgical Services

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan.
• Manage all future scheduling for the operating room, which includes handling telephone requests, faxes, and scheduling slips.
• Accept verbal add-on cases for the same day and gather necessary patient information.
• Relay add-on cases and cancellations to the O.R. coordinator and relevant departments.
• Utilize both computerized and non-computerized OR Management scheduling systems to organize daily surgical case schedules.
• Implement block scheduling system guidelines to input surgical cases.
• Arrange the sequence of surgical cases, taking into account shared resources, staff availability, and surgeon preferences.
• Communicate confirmation numbers of scheduled cases to the staff at physicians' offices via RightFax.
• Inform surgeons and their offices about surgery times for procedures scheduled for the following day.
• Alert the Inventory Control Specialist about specialty items required for scheduled procedures.
• Maintain daily communication with O.R. coordinators, the O.R. Manager, and Anesthesia regarding issues, conflicts, and special requests.
• Access departmental communications daily through voicemail and/or email.
• High school diploma is required.
• An Associate's degree and/or three years of experience in a hospital or health-related field focusing on medical registration and terminology is highly preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word.
• Familiarity with Windows-based applications.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively operate multiple computer systems.
• Previous experience in Operating Room scheduling or as a unit clerk is preferred.
• Residents of the state of Michigan are required.
• Must be vaccinated or have laboratory confirmed immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, and Varicella.
• Must receive a flu vaccine during the flu season of the year hired and every year thereafter, or obtain an approved medical or religious exemption.
