SAP Basis – Migration Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Carry out S/4HANA conversions and migrations.

• Conduct readiness assessments, CVI, and SDM/SDNI processes.

• Modify custom code and ensure compatibility validation.

• Implement DMO with SUM for migrations and conversions to HANA and Cloud.

• Execute traditional OS/DB heterogeneous migrations, system copies, and landscape refreshes.

• Perform comprehensive kernel upgrades and manage file distribution across instances.

• Oversee kernel files, including ownership, permissions, and sticky bits management.

• Execute the entire SUM lifecycle, encompassing downtime and shadow instance operations.

• Handle SPDD/SPAU adjustments.

• Diagnose upgrade challenges, incomplete transports, open updates, and phase failures.

• Enhance downtime efficiency during migration cycles.

• Install and support SAP add-ons through SPAM.

• Manage PBS software components and TOCs for transport administration.

• Analyze work processes using SM50/SM66 and dpmon.

• Conduct trace/debug activities, lock analysis, and performance optimization.

• Recover systems facing open updates while managing downtime.

• Troubleshoot ABAP/Java stack startup, UME database connectivity, and database-related issues.

• Create and maintain Shell and Python automation scripts for upgrades, monitoring, and routine activities.

• Develop repeatable processes to minimize manual intervention.

• Act as the final escalation point for complex incidents at L3.

• Perform root cause analysis and facilitate system recovery.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficient in English is essential (for global communication).

• Extensive practical experience in SAP migrations to S/4HANA and upgrades; theoretical or coordination roles are inadequate.

• Up to 12 years of SAP Basis experience, or equivalent career level.

• Proficiency in executing readiness checks, CVI, and SDM/SDNI processes.

• Experience in custom code adaptation and compatibility validation.

• Knowledge of the differences in architecture between ECC and S/4HANA and the influence of in-memory computing.

• Practical experience with RISE with SAP architectural frameworks, ECS operational procedures, and Cloud Managed Services governance.

• Experience executing DMO with SUM for direct migrations/conversions to HANA and Cloud.

• Hands-on experience with classical OS/DB heterogeneous migrations, system copies, and landscape refreshes.

• Experience with end-to-end kernel upgrades and file distribution across various instances.

• Understanding of DB-dependent versus independent files, patching, and hotfixes.

• Knowledge of kernel file management, including disp+work ownership, permissions, and sticky bits configuration.

• Comprehensive understanding of the SUM lifecycle, including phases, downtime, and shadow instance management.

• Hands-on experience with SPDD/SPAU adjustments.

• Capability to troubleshoot upgrade issues, including incomplete transports and open update resolution.

• Knowledge of strategies for downtime optimization and troubleshooting phase failures during migration cycles.

• Experience installing and maintaining SAP add-ons through SPAM (SAP Patch Manager).

• Understanding of PBS (Protected Business System/software components).

• Experience managing TOC (Transport of Copies) for transport administration.

• Knowledge of SPDD/SPAU behavior during add-on installations and how it differs from upgrade scenarios.

• Expertise in SAP system administration, including work process analysis using SM50/SM66 and OS tools like dpmon.

• Trace/debug experience at the work process level.

• Lock analysis using SM12 and performance troubleshooting skills.

• Experience with system recovery involving open updates and management of downtime.

• Familiarity with ABAP and Java stacks and dual-stack dependencies, including startup order and schema users.

• Knowledge of UME database connectivity using R3trans, DBACOCKPIT, and HANA Studio.

• Ability to troubleshoot system startup and database challenges.

• Development and upkeep of automation scripts using Shell and Python.

• Experience in automating upgrades, monitoring, and routine tasks.

• Ability to formulate repeatable processes to decrease manual intervention.

• Experience managing critical incidents as the L3 final escalation point.

• Proficiency in root cause analysis and system recovery capabilities.
