This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee the commercial strategy and transaction execution for Municipalities, Electric Cooperatives, and Investor-Owned Utilities (IOUs).
• Identify, structure, negotiate, and finalize substantial commercial agreements, including equipment sales, long-term service contracts, capacity agreements, and collaborative projects.
• Act as Mainspring’s primary liaison within the Public Power sector.
• Foster relationships with utility executives, procurement leaders, board members, and energy traders to generate pipeline opportunities.
• Represent Mainspring at industry conferences, regional association gatherings, dinners, and client locations.
• Tailor Mainspring’s Linear Generator to meet utility demands, including data center interconnection delays, load growth, generation retirement replacements, and firm capacity needs.
• Develop and negotiate term sheets, MOUs, equipment purchase contracts, and bespoke commercial frameworks in collaboration with legal, regulatory, product, and finance teams.
• Lead responses to RFPs, engage in Integrated Resource Planning (IRP), and pursue bilateral partnerships.
• Deliver market insights, customer challenges, and utility requirements to product, engineering, and executive leadership teams to shape product roadmaps.
• Travel for client dinners, conferences, site visits, and deal closure activities.
• 16 years of overall experience in the North American power or clean energy sectors.
• A minimum of 8 years of direct transactional experience in an outward-facing origination or commercial role with direct engagement with counterparties.
• Demonstrated track record of originating, negotiating, and closing intricate, high-value energy transactions, including equipment sales, Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), Build Transfer Agreements (BTAs), capacity contracts, or substantial infrastructure agreements with Municipalities, Cooperatives, and/or IOUs.
• Comprehensive understanding of Public Power procurement procedures, Generation & Transmission (G&T) cooperative structures, board governance, RTO/ISO market regulations, and utility financial models.
• Willingness and capability to travel up to 50% of the time.
• Highly charismatic, extroverted, and self-assured in navigating boardrooms and informal dining settings.
• Exceptional skill in establishing rapport with senior utility executives.
• An active, transferable network of utility, cooperative, and municipal decision-makers and counterparts.
• Profound understanding of power economics, capacity markets, spark spreads, tax credits (IRA/OBBBA), project finance (NPV, IRR), and grid interconnection processes.
• Ability to coordinate internal technical, regulatory, and financial experts.
• Bachelor's Degree in Business, Engineering, Economics, or a related field (preferred; an MBA or advanced degree is a plus).
• Extensive existing network across regional wholesale markets such as PJM, ISO-NE, NYISO, MISO, ERCOT, SPP, SERC, or WECC.
