Safety and Loss Control Consultant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.

📋 Description

• Perform loss analysis and conduct research prior to on-site surveys focused on occupational safety and loss prevention.

• Evaluate the safety initiatives of policyholders and pinpoint occupational safety risks.

• Prepare and present findings reports to management.

• Suggest improvements to address hazards and enhance safety and loss control programs.

• Engage in management training programs.

• Investigate safety literature, regulations, standards, and technological advancements.

• Supply Underwriting with risk evaluations that support underwriting decisions.

• Collaborate with standard to large accounts and manage complex hazard and safety challenges.

• Mentor and support Safety and Loss Control Trainees as necessary.

• Participate in training sessions with policyholders alongside Senior Safety and Loss Control Consultants.

• Advise policyholders on enhancing occupational safety programs and workplace safety.

• Provide underwriters with relevant safety information regarding policyholders.

• Assess safety programs and work environments for hazardous conditions.

• Conduct basic Industrial Hygiene testing.

• Create cost-effective solutions to mitigate hazardous conditions.

• Analyze loss data to identify accident trends.

• Communicate hazards, control efficiency, and policyholder compliance to Underwriting.

• Keep Underwriting updated on alterations in hazards or exposures.

• Address inquiries related to safety from policyholders, underwriters, and agencies.

• Share ideas and concerns with management.

• Provide guidance and motivation to support staff.

• Carry out additional duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required, ideally in safety, industrial hygiene, engineering, or a related field.

• Familiarity with occupational safety and industrial hygiene practices.

• Understanding of effective management of safety programs.

• Knowledge of risk management, safety, and industrial hygiene principles.

• Awareness of workers' compensation laws, policies, and regulations.

• Comprehension of insurance and risk management concepts.

• Knowledge of guaranteed costs, deductibles, retrospective rating plans, and the impact of accident prevention.

• Proficiency in rating systems and experience modification factors.

• Understanding of U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics loss data and incidence-rate calculations.

• Familiarity with basic business financial principles.

• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

• Ability to compile, analyze, and report findings effectively.

• Knowledge of Federal OSHA, MSHA, DOT, and NFPA standards.

• Strong oral and written communication skills.

• Capability to operate a motor vehicle safely.

• Must possess a valid driver's license.

• Experience in Package, Auto, and Workers' Compensation is preferred.

• Certifications such as CSP, CIH, ARM, or ASP are preferred.

• A Master's degree in Safety or Industrial Hygiene along with two years of experience in occupational safety management or consulting may be preferred.
