Safeguarding Lead – Children and Young Person Service

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Offer specialized safeguarding advice and support to clinicians, operational teams, and senior leaders who work with children and young people.

• Assist in the identification, assessment, management, and escalation of safeguarding issues.

• Provide guidance on child protection, parental responsibility, consent, confidentiality, information sharing, Gillick competence, and best-interest decision-making.

• Support intricate cases involving abuse, neglect, exploitation, domestic abuse, contextual safeguarding, online risks, self-harm, and suicide risk.

• Complete or assist with safeguarding referrals to Children’s Social Care and other pertinent agencies.

• Create and communicate clear safeguarding management plans.

• Offer prompt advice on high-risk or urgent safeguarding situations.

• Collaborate with local authority Children’s Services, educational institutions, NHS organizations, law enforcement, safeguarding partnerships, and third-sector organizations.

• Attend child protection conferences, strategy discussions, case conferences, and other multi-agency meetings.

• Aid clinicians in preparing safeguarding reports and information for external agencies.

• Provide safeguarding supervision and facilitate reflective practice.

• Contribute to the development of safeguarding training, guidance, and educational resources.

• Assist with audits, safeguarding reviews, incident learning, and quality improvement activities.

• Track safeguarding themes, trends, and risks, contributing to reports, dashboards, and governance updates.

• Support the creation and revision of safeguarding policies, procedures, pathways, and care plans.

• Respond to internal safeguarding alerts on the RADAR system and fulfill workflow and investigation requirements.

• Forward completed RADAR reports in PDF format to the Quality and Safety Clinical Governance Lead for external police or local authority reporting to CQC.

• Collaborate with the Head of Safeguarding and IT personnel to maintain RADAR and other digital processes.

• Contribute to reviews, recommendations, and lessons learned.

• Integrate safeguarding throughout the CYP patient journey from referral to discharge.

• Advocate for safeguarding as a collective responsibility.

• Maintain precise, confidential, and up-to-date safeguarding records.

• Escalate significant safeguarding or organizational risks to the Head of Safeguarding.

• Participate in the PUK Safeguarding Committee and governance meetings.

• Maintain specialized safeguarding knowledge and engage in continuing professional development.

• Assist clinicians in managing concerns during video, telephone, and digital consultations.

• Advise on the verification of identity, location, parental responsibility, and emergency contacts.

• Support the urgent escalation of immediate safeguarding risks remotely.

• Identify appropriate local authorities and emergency services across different geographical areas.

• Stay informed about online safety, digital harms, and emerging risks in remote healthcare.

• Report to the Head of Safeguarding.

⛳️ Requirements

• Applicants must be residents of the UK.

• Must be a registered healthcare or social care professional with an appropriate professional body.

• Possess Safeguarding Children Level 4 training or an equivalent specialist safeguarding qualification.

• Have substantial experience in safeguarding children and young people within healthcare, mental health, social care, or a related environment.

• Strong working knowledge of safeguarding legislation, statutory guidance, and child protection procedures.

• Familiarity with the Children Act 1989 and 2004 and Working Together to Safeguard Children.

• Understanding of parental responsibility, consent, confidentiality, Gillick competence, and information sharing.

• Awareness of domestic abuse, exploitation, contextual safeguarding, and online risks.

• Experience with multi-agency safeguarding collaboration.

• Background in safeguarding supervision.

• Experience with complex safeguarding risk assessment and decision-making.

• Experience delivering safeguarding training or education.

• Ability to provide clear, proportionate, and defensible safeguarding advice.

• Strong report-writing, governance, and IT skills.

• Highly organized, resilient, capable of prioritizing effectively, working autonomously and collaboratively, making proportionate and defensible decisions, and communicating sensitively.

• Desirable: experience in remote or digital healthcare.

• Desirable: recent specialized training in safeguarding children.

• Desirable: experience in developing safeguarding training programs.

• Desirable: experience in audit, quality improvement, or policy development.

• Desirable: experience preparing safeguarding assurance for CQC, NHS commissioners, or other regulatory bodies.
