This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
• Perform literature and open-source reviews related to AI within the specialty domain.
• Design, plan, and develop AI software while adhering to digital safety best practices.
• Tackle intricate AI and software engineering issues using technical, diagnostic, and troubleshooting expertise.
• Design, plan, and implement statistically significant evaluations for AI systems.
• Create written documentation components tailored for technical audiences.
• Collaborate closely with team members to ensure processes are accurate and technically viable.
• Lead problem-solving initiatives in specialized areas.
• Develop digital safety system components that vary in novelty and complexity.
• Mentor junior team members.
• Oversee specific AI or software engineering workstreams.
• Anticipate research, tool development, and end-user requirements.
• Execute additional duties as assigned.
• PhD in Computer Science focusing on the relevant AI specialty area with at least 4 years of directly related research experience; alternatively, a Master’s degree with 6 or more years; or a Bachelor’s degree with 10 or more years.
• Expert-level knowledge of AI safety pertaining to the specialty area.
• Capability to independently address engineering research challenges through integrated safety testing.
• Proficient in creating digital safety system components across various digital safety domains.
• Ability to offer technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
• Skill in leading AI or software engineering workstreams.
• Capacity to participate in standards technical committees.
• Ability to cultivate and maintain relationships within the AI and safety research community.
