Reliability Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Wisconsin.

📋 Description

• Ensure the resilience and availability of Kohl’s systems and applications.

• Collaborate with development teams to evaluate designs, carry out risk assessments, and establish robust monitoring and failover mechanisms.

• Lead incident response initiatives, conduct root cause analyses, and implement preventive measures.

• Establish consistent practices through automation and process enhancements.

• Adhere to the software lifecycle and promote reliability, observability, and efficiency across product teams within a designated domain.

• Identify recurring toil and opportunities for automation and risk mitigation.

• Participate in an on-call rotation for production incidents.

• Conduct blameless retrospectives and root-cause analyses to foster continuous improvement.

• Proactively detect failures before outages by utilizing chaos engineering, edge cases, failure modes, and design reviews.

• Provide guidance on capacity planning and continuously evaluate system behavior and resource consumption.

• Collaborate with product managers to identify and prioritize best practices for reliability using SLIs, SLOs, and Error Budgets.

• Perform other assigned tasks.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.

• 2+ years of experience in software development.

• Proficient programming skills in one or more languages such as Java, Python, Go, or Node.js.

• Familiarity with systems architecture, operating system internals, and networking fundamentals.

• Experience with at least one cloud platform (e.g., GCP, AWS, or Azure).

• Preferred: Experience using monitoring techniques and tools (e.g., CloudWatch, Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Tracing).

• Preferred: Working knowledge of containerization and container orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, Rancher).
