This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.
• Process refunds for patients and their insurance providers.
• Examine credit transactions and investigate patient accounts for both patients and insurance companies.
• Confirm payment methods and retrieve remittance documents to ascertain actual credits.
• Adjust minor balances and manage the distribution of funds.
• Issue refund checks to patients.
• Prepare refund checks along with detailed reports for management's review and signature.
• Generate financial reports for accounting assessment.
• Prepare and dispatch checks.
• Organize and file relevant backup documentation.
• Handle returned refunds in collaboration with the accounting department and reach out to patients to resend refunds.
• Uphold patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and practice compliance regulations.
• Stay informed about practice management and other software pertinent to job responsibilities.
• Attend mandatory training sessions and any requested meetings.
• Execute additional tasks assigned by the Director of Central Billing Services, Manager, Team Leader, or Supervisor.
• Follow departmental policies and report any policy breaches through the appropriate channels.
• High school diploma or an equivalent GED.
• Experience in healthcare or a related field is mandatory.
• One to three years of experience, ideally in a healthcare billing environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Competent computer skills, including proficiency in word processing and data entry.
• Capability to communicate professionally and effectively with management and colleagues.
• Detail-oriented, with the ability to identify errors and inconsistencies.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining focus on assigned tasks.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and compliance guidelines.
• Moderate physical demands, including occasional lifting of approximately 20–30 pounds.
• Prolonged periods of sitting, along with some bending, stooping, and stretching.
• Good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate keyboards, photocopiers, telephones, calculators, and other office equipment.
• Normal hearing and vision, correctable to a normal range.
• Occasional evening or weekend work required.
• Access to mandatory OSHA, HIPAA, and OIG training programs.
• Assigned training in AP, including CPR, OSHA, HIPAA, Compliance, and Information Security.
