Quality Engineering Lead – Automation Architect

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the test automation strategy and roadmap for POMS.

• Act as the technical lead for the Playwright framework, setting automation standards, coding guidelines, and review practices.

• Create and develop scalable Playwright testing suites using TypeScript.

• Manage workflow-based testing suites that encompass functional, API, integration, and end-to-end testing.

• Evaluate the manual test inventory and prioritize tests for automation, redesign, consolidation, manual execution, or retirement.

• Collaborate with Development and DevOps to improve automated regression pipelines, testing environments, test data, and parallel execution strategies.

• Utilize AI-assisted tools for test generation, maintenance, coverage analysis, and defect detection.

• Build, mentor, and nurture a QA team.

• Establish standards, coaching practices, delegation, and ownership models for scalable automation.

• Set objectives, performance expectations, and career development plans; assist with hiring, onboarding, and succession planning.

• Promote quality ownership, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

• Advocate for shift-left and risk-based testing methodologies.

• Engage in requirements, design, and architecture reviews.

• Define data-driven release readiness criteria and quality gates.

• Take responsibility for QA across all software releases.

• Develop operational and executive dashboards and KPIs that track automation coverage, defect escape rates, release readiness, and team performance.

• Lead root cause analyses of escaped defects and implement preventive measures.

• Support validation and compliance activities within a regulated software environment.

• Create a baseline quality scorecard and demonstrate measurable KPI improvements within 12 months.

• Enhance automated coverage of core and critical product areas.

• Ensure reliable, rapid, and maintainable automated regression testing for every build.

• Empower the QA team to generate automation at scale.

• Identify defects earlier and bolster release confidence.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

• Over 5 years of experience in software quality assurance and testing.

• Expert-level experience in developing enterprise-scale test automation frameworks using Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, or similar tools.

• Proficient in TypeScript or JavaScript.

• Strong software engineering capabilities, including Git, API testing, SQL, debugging, and code review.

• Experience in integrating automated regression testing into CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar platforms.

• Proven experience in scaling automation capabilities through coaching, standards, and delegation.

• Demonstrated use of quality metrics, dashboards, and KPIs to influence decisions and outcomes.

• Experienced in testing complex web-based enterprise applications in Agile environments.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Hands-on experience in building substantial Playwright suites in TypeScript is preferred.

• Experience in leading QA teams or managing large-scale testing initiatives is preferred.

• Familiarity with regulated industries, including GxP and 21 CFR Part 11, is preferred.

• Experience working across mixed TFVC and Git environments, including migrations to Git, is preferred.

• Proven success in transforming a predominantly manual QA organization into one focused on automation is preferred.

• Experience utilizing AI or machine learning to enhance testing efficiency and effectiveness is preferred.

• Knowledge of performance and security testing methodologies is preferred.
