This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Provide cohesive clinical and operational guidance to a team of Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners.
• Deliver NHS Talking Therapies Step 2 low-intensity CBT interventions within Spectrum.Life.
• Conduct weekly group case management meetings, ensuring each PWP receives at least one hour of supervision weekly.
• Offer individual clinical supervision tailored to each PWP's experience and caseload risk.
• Review active cases, outcome data, risk and safety planning, and treatment fidelity during supervision sessions.
• Keep accurate supervision records in compliance with BABCP and NHS Talking Therapies standards.
• Serve as the designated clinical contact for active risk cases, providing real-time support to PWPs.
• Ensure risk escalation protocols are implemented, including transitioning to Step 3, safeguarding, and emergency responses.
• Review and co-sign risk management plans for high-risk Step 2 cases.
• Act as the safeguarding lead for the PWP team.
• Oversee PWP practices and address any scope drift.
• Monitor outcome data and utilize it for supervision and quality enhancement.
• Identify continuing professional development (CPD) needs and create personal development plans.
• Support newly qualified PWPs during their consolidation phase with increased supervision.
• Facilitate peer learning, reflective practice sessions, and skills workshops.
• Manage team performance concerning NHS Talking Therapies access and quality metrics.
• Monitor caseload capacity and ensure equitable distribution of referrals.
• Contribute to operational and clinical governance performance reports.
• Oversee recruitment, induction, sickness absence, annual leave, and performance management processes.
• Conduct annual appraisals integrating clinical and operational objectives.
• Manage rotas and resource allocation effectively.
• Potentially oversee counsellors, high-intensity CBT therapists, and psychologists.
• Ensure adherence to GDPR, NHS Information Governance, and Spectrum.Life clinical governance frameworks.
• Participate in clinical audits, service evaluations, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Serve as the primary operational contact for commissioners, referrers, and partner organizations.
• Collaborate with the broader clinical team on step-up and step-down processes.
• BABCP accreditation as a PWP or as a High Intensity CBT therapist.
• Formal training in low-intensity CBT interventions, including guided self-help, behavioural activation, worry management, structured problem-solving, and/or sleep restriction.
• Completion of a recognized PWP Supervisor Training Programme aligned with NHS Talking Therapies.
• If entering at the degree level: a minimum undergraduate degree (2:1 or above) or equivalent professional experience.
• At least 3 years of post-qualification experience as a practicing PWP across the full Step 2 range; or for BABCP-accredited HI CBT therapist applicants, a minimum of 2 years of direct experience delivering low-intensity CBT interventions within an NHS Talking Therapies Step 2 service.
• A minimum of 12 months of experience providing clinical supervision or case management to PWPs, either formally or informally.
• Proven experience managing clinical risk at Step 2 and working within stepped care escalation pathways.
• Experience in an NHS Talking Therapies or equivalent IAPT-compliant service, with a working knowledge of IAPT-standard outcome measures and data requirements.
• Experience managing caseloads, supervising others' caseloads, or contributing to service performance management.
• Expert-level knowledge of the NHS Talking Therapies Manual (2023) and the stepped care model.
• Strong understanding of NICE guidelines relevant to common mental health conditions (CG90/CG91, CG113, NG116) and their application at Step 2.
• Familiarity with BABCP accreditation standards for PWPs and PWP supervisors.
• Competency in delivering and supervising the full range of NICE-recommended low-intensity CBT interventions.
• Ability to conduct and supervise thorough clinical risk assessments, including those related to suicide and self-harm, and to assist others in doing so.
• Excellent communication skills — capable of translating clinical complexities into operationally actionable information and vice versa.
• Competency in utilizing outcome monitoring data (PHQ-9, GAD-7, WSAS) to inform clinical supervision and improve service quality.
• Working knowledge of NHS information governance, safeguarding legislation, and clinical governance frameworks.
• Desirable: Experience in a formal management or senior clinical role within an NHS Talking Therapies Step 2 or stepped care service.
• Desirable: Completion of BABCP PWP Supervisor Accreditation.
• Desirable: Knowledge of digital and telephone-based delivery models for low-intensity interventions.
• Desirable: Experience contributing to workforce development, training design, or competency-based assessment frameworks.
• Desirable: Familiarity with NHS Talking Therapies data reporting tools.
• Desirable: Experience in a third sector, independent sector, or commissioned NHS Talking Therapies service.
