Project Manager, Aerospace & Defense

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead and manage Aerospace & Defense field operations

• Provide effective hands-on leadership during on-site inspections, nondestructive testing, and related asset integrity services

• Supervise field teams carrying out work at customer facilities, space labs, manufacturing locations, and other operational sites

• Ensure project delivery is safe, on time, within budget, and meets required quality and compliance standards

• Oversee daily management of MISTRAS field activities, including NDT/NDI, access services, and supporting industrial services

• Manage project scope, schedule, resources, budget, and deliverables from the planning phase through to project closeout

• Develop and implement systems for planning, cost control, and progress tracking

• Direct field supervisors and multi-disciplined teams to enhance productivity, quality, and compliance

• Foster customer relationships and act as the primary client contact

• Provide regular status updates and KPI reports

• Ensure compliance with HSE, radiation safety, quality, and regulatory requirements, including Nadcap, AS9100, ITAR, and specific customer procedures

• Lead risk management efforts, resolve field issues, and promote continuous improvement

• Assist in proposal development, scope definition, and budget estimation

• Prepare daily and weekly status reports, staffing plans, work-location tracking, and performance metrics

• Encourage employee morale, accountability, and adherence to company policies

• Collaborate with In-Labs, Technical Team, Sales, and other MISTRAS resources to support integrated field-to-lab solutions

⛳️ Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent is required

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Project Management, or a related technical field is preferred

• Minimum of 5 years of Project Management or supervisory experience

• At least 3-5 years managing field inspection/NDT projects

• Strong technical knowledge of nondestructive testing methods, including UT, RT, PT, MT, VT, or advanced techniques

• Previous experience in regulated industries adhering to strict quality, safety, and compliance standards

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in customer relationship management

• Proven leadership experience with field teams and a history of maintaining outstanding HSE performance and meeting project KPIs

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and project management software

• Experience in data extraction, KPI reporting, and managing large worklists/spreadsheets

• Willingness to maintain a strong field presence, including travel to customer sites

• U.S. citizenship or ability to meet ITAR and other security/compliance requirements may be required based on specific projects

• Active or ability to obtain security clearance is preferred for certain defense assignments

• PMP or equivalent project management certification is preferred

• API, ASNT, or other relevant NDT certifications are preferred

• Experience working with aerospace primes, defense contractors, or FAA-related projects is preferred

• Familiarity with MISTRAS systems or similar asset integrity/project management platforms is preferred

• Background in rope access, industrial services, or multi-disciplined field crews is preferred

• Successfully pass a pre-employment background check, alcohol/drug screening, and required medical evaluations

• Maintain necessary certifications
