Project Controls Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +4 more locations.

📋 Description

• Oversee cost control, budgeting/estimating, forecasting, change management, and purchase-to-pay activities for industrial capital projects.

• Create and implement standardized project controls procedures.

• Offer analytical support for data-driven decision-making by project managers and Project Group Leadership.

• Maintain the integrity, consistency, and efficiency of Project Controls processes throughout the project lifecycle, from development to close-out.

• Provide mentorship and functional support to cost controllers.

• Allocate resources across the project portfolio based on project complexity and phase.

• Develop, standardize, and uphold project controls policies, procedures, tools, and guidelines.

• Promote continuous improvement through the application of lessons learned.

• Collaborate with Finance and the Business Service Center.

• Create and oversee project budgets, monitor costs against forecasts, identify discrepancies, and implement corrective measures.

• Direct capitalization and project close-out procedures.

• Manage and report on portfolio KPIs, portfolio updates, variance analysis, as well as cost and schedule forecasts.

• Assist in project and portfolio review meetings.

• Lead formal change management processes by assessing impacts on scope, schedule, and cost prior to authorization.

• Analyze and verify project estimates using internal benchmarks and a basis of estimate.

• Review cost and schedule submissions from engineering and construction contractors.

• Prepare and present project and portfolio performance reports, S-curves, and KPI dashboards utilizing tools such as Power BI/SAP.

• Oversee portfolio KPIs and department scorecards.

• Manage internal staffing plans, project resource forecasts, and the project timekeeping system.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Finance, Business Administration, or a relevant technical discipline.

• 8-12+ years of comprehensive experience in project controls.

• Previous experience in industrial gas, chemical processing, oil & gas, process industries, EPC execution, or heavy industrial capital projects.

• Willingness to travel up to 15% of the time.

• Outstanding interpersonal and demonstrated facilitation abilities.

• Capacity to motivate and influence others, build effective working relationships, and foster a positive and productive team environment.

• Flexibility and adaptability in work style to accommodate multiple requests and sudden changes in priorities.

• Experience and expertise in cost estimating techniques.

• Understanding of the accuracy of estimates at different stages of the project.

• Capability to make prompt decisions while managing multiple tasks and effectively prioritizing/delegating work.

• Proficient in preparing and delivering training on project controls topics to diverse audiences.

• Strong analytical abilities with a systematic and methodical approach.

• Familiarity with SAP ERP systems.

• Preference for SAP S/4HANA experience.

• Experience utilizing AI tools is preferred.

• AACE certifications are preferred.

• PMP certification is preferred.
