Production Engineering Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Australia.

📋 Description

• Oversee Core, one of the two teams within Production Engineering

• Lead software engineers tasked with Production Engineering services and broader engineering challenges across teams

• Transform intricate or vaguely defined challenges into clear engineering objectives and execute them

• Question technical assumptions, comprehend trade-offs, and back informed engineering decisions

• Establish Core's areas of focus, priorities, and future challenges

• Design the framework for initiatives and their assessment

• Convert insights from individual projects into reusable capabilities throughout Canva

• Set team objectives, mentor engineers, foster psychological safety, and facilitate organizational fluency and influence

• Develop reliable services and scalable, reusable engineering standards

• Enhance the feedback loop between Core and Embedded teams

• Cultivate engineers' skills to tackle intricate technical and inter-team challenges

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience leading software engineers through complex or ambiguous technical projects

• Demonstrated experience in mentoring engineers to enhance their skills and independence

• Background in software environments where reliability, scalability, and production risks are critical

• Experience in owning and delivering significant technical initiatives across multiple teams

• Expertise in promoting the adoption of new tools, practices, or methodologies

• Capability to articulate technical trade-offs effectively and establish direction

• Strong foundation in computer science principles, including concurrency, multithreading, and data structures

• Proficiency in Go, Python, Java, or C++

• Comprehensive knowledge of system internals, networking, and cloud services such as AWS or GCP

• Experience with systems design, architecture, and engineering patterns

• Familiarity with observability, capacity management, failure modes, and production systems

• Experience working in large-scale or high-criticality environments

• Previous management experience in SRE/Production Engineering, infrastructure exposure, and developing technical leaders is a plus
