This is a fully remote position, open to applicants anywhere in the world.
• Create refined, production-ready user interfaces for Chess.com applications across web, iOS, and Android platforms.
• Take ownership of project design from the initial problem identification through to implementation.
• Maintain strong alignment between design and code throughout all projects.
• Collaborate with Product Designers, Product Managers, Engineers, and stakeholders to define requirements and explore various design directions.
• Utilize Chess.com design patterns and design system to craft responsive, interactive user experiences.
• Develop and refine prototypes using tools such as Cursor and Claude.
• Present your work and articulate design decisions based on rationale, user insights, and product context.
• Engage proactively in a remote environment that relies heavily on Slack.
• Ask questions early, propose enhancements, and provide constructive feedback to the design team.
• 2–3 years of experience as a Product Designer working on consumer-facing products or games.
• A portfolio showcasing refined UI designs for web and mobile applications that highlights personal contributions.
• A solid understanding of UI design principles, including typography, color theory, layout, visual hierarchy, alignment, contrast, and interactivity.
• Experience with an established design system that incorporates tokens, components, and design patterns.
• Familiarity with frontend development and how design is translated into code.
• Experience utilizing AI-assisted tools like Cursor and Claude for prototyping and idea iteration.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with effective collaboration, ownership, and follow-through in a remote, globally distributed team.
• Applicants from around the globe are welcome; availability for at least 3 hours of overlap with U.S. working hours is required.
