Product Design Manager – Design System

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Establish the design strategy for the designated area, translating it into actionable plans with milestones and measurable outcomes, while effectively communicating the case to senior leadership in terms relevant to customers and the business.

• Collaborate with product teams to ensure that designers begin with clear, well-defined briefs and challenge any briefs that are not adequately prepared.

• Maintain consistent customer journeys across teams and proactively resolve conflicting designs prior to launch.

• Facilitate critique and design reviews based on an accessibility-inclusive definition of completion.

• Ensure that all delivered work meets established quality standards.

• Determine which elements require customer testing before development versus those that should be measured post-launch, with validation and success metrics integrated into the delivery process.

• Ensure that journeys utilize the design system and incorporate market and product variations without necessitating one-off rebuilds.

• Plan and allocate resources for design-system contributions as separate projects.

• Cultivate partnerships with product and engineering teams to influence development decisions and maintain alignment throughout the development process.

• Recruit, set expectations, provide feedback, and mentor product designers.

• Integrate AI tools into the design process of the team and model their effective and responsible use.

• Foster AI proficiency within the team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in product design, with a portfolio showcasing shipped work across mobile and web that illustrates the problem, decisions made, and outcomes achieved.

• More than 3 years of experience in managing product designers, including responsibilities for hiring, coaching, and career development.

• Proven experience in setting design direction for a product area and leading a team to accomplish it.

• Background in running a design quality practice, such as critiques, design reviews, and defining done criteria, resulting in enhanced quality of delivered work.

• Experience in creating shared patterns or templates that are adopted across various teams, products, or markets.

• Demonstrated experience in delivering accessible and inclusive products for individuals with disabilities, newcomers to digital products, and users on limited devices and connectivity.

• Familiarity with utilizing AI tools in design work and promoting that fluency throughout a team.

• Experience in designing for POS terminals is a significant advantage.

• Background in financial services, multiple markets, or operational tools is appreciated.
