This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Organize, schedule, and monitor both import and export shipments.
• Oversee the traffic flow to and from international locations.
• Collaborate with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and government entities to coordinate customs entry declarations.
• Ensure the accuracy of customs and import business, entry transactions, and documentation.
• Uphold compliance with federal and international regulations concerning imported and exported items.
• Assign the correct Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes to goods being imported and exported.
• Analyze technical specifications, engineering drawings, bills of materials, and product literature for proper classification.
• Investigate and utilize General Rules of Interpretation, Explanatory Notes, and Customs rulings.
• Maintain justifications and records for classification decisions to facilitate customs audits and inquiries.
• Offer technical assistance regarding HTS classification, customs valuation, preferential origin determinations, duty deferral programs, customs declarations, and clearance procedures.
• Review customs entry documentation prior to submission to U.S. Customs.
• Liaise with the U.S. customs broker and manage international shipment logistics.
• Keep necessary records in accordance with company policies and U.S. government regulations.
• Assist with import compliance evaluations.
• Carry out export and import licensing tasks.
• Create global trade compliance strategies and enhance customs data management.
• Investigate and resolve issues related to customers or suppliers.
• Collaborate with global import/export operations and organizations.
• Manage import shipments and deliveries within internal customer timelines.
• Provide support for trade training initiatives.
• Handle vendor invoices and report post-entry modifications.
• Audit import files for precision and completeness.
• Evaluate forwarder performance and deliver feedback.
• Assist export personnel and operations in securing necessary documentation and data.
• Support additional traffic and administrative functions as needed.
• Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 3 years of experience, or a PhD with 1 year of experience in Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes for imported and exported goods.
• Possession of a valid U.S. Customs Broker License.
• At least 5 years of professional experience with CBP in customs brokerage, as a freight forwarder, or with a large importer.
• Capability to interpret the U.S. Harmonized Tariff Schedule along with a solid understanding of chapters and explanatory notes, and the ability to assist with HTS classification.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance and Special Programs Access within a reasonable timeframe as dictated by business requirements.
• U.S. Citizenship is mandatory for all positions requiring government clearance and certain other restricted roles.
• Experience in the defense industry is preferred.
• An active U.S. Government DoD security clearance at the Secret level is preferred.
