Principal Software Engineer – Fullstack

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Oversee the architecture, design, and implementation of comprehensive customer-facing features across web UI, backend services, APIs, and integrations.

• Create production-level code, develop prototypes, review designs and code, and tackle complex engineering challenges.

• Advance shared frontend and backend platform capabilities to ensure consistent, accessible, and maintainable customer experiences.

• Define service boundaries, APIs, data contracts, integration patterns, and versioning strategies across Sophos products.

• Design cloud-native, multi-tenant systems that focus on security, scalability, availability, performance, resilience, and cost-effectiveness.

• Implement secure-by-design principles for authentication, authorization, role-based access, tenant isolation, privacy, auditability, and customer data management.

• Create secure customer experiences for discovering and interacting with AI assistants and agents.

• Develop reusable AI platform capabilities for request routing, context management, tool integration, orchestration, access control, and human oversight.

• Establish methodologies for AI evaluation, guardrails, regression testing, observability, latency, cost management, and safe failure behavior.

• Utilize AI coding agents throughout the software development lifecycle and validate changes generated by agents prior to release.

• Establish agentic development practices for task decomposition, context management, human review, automated verification, and the safe use of coding agents.

• Convert product objectives and ambiguous technical issues into architectural guidance and incremental delivery strategies.

• Mentor engineers, elevate engineering standards, and ensure alignment between product, UX, security, applied AI, and platform teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 12 years of software development experience, currently in a Principal, Staff, Architect, or equivalent role.

• Practical experience in building production AI applications or agentic workflows, beyond just prototypes.

• Strong expertise in utilizing AI coding agents throughout design, implementation, testing, debugging, code review, and documentation.

• Extensive architecture and system design experience for large-scale, customer-facing SaaS products.

• Hands-on backend development experience with Go and/or Java.

• Frontend development experience with Angular and/or React.

• Experience in designing, deploying, and managing secure microservices and APIs on AWS.

• Proven technical leadership skills, including making design decisions, resolving complex production issues, and mentoring engineers.

• Cybersecurity domain experience is a plus, but not required.

• Legal authorization to work in India without the need for employer sponsorship.
