Principal Software Engineer – Edge Computing

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, architect, and develop the core components for Resideo’s advanced edge computing and spatial intelligence platforms.

• Create an edge runtime and integration platform that consolidates data and functionalities from connected devices throughout the home.

• Construct software models and knowledge frameworks that render device and home information accessible for edge applications, mobile interfaces, and intelligent agents.

• Navigate complex technical challenges from initial concept through to prototype and final implementation.

• Assess technologies and architectural strategies for attributes such as scalability, reliability, performance, portability, and maintainability.

• Offer technical leadership, architectural direction, conduct code and design evaluations, and uphold robust software engineering methodologies.

• Work collaboratively with engineers across various domains including Innovation, IoT systems, mobile technology, embedded firmware, and other technical fields.

• Participate in R&D planning by identifying potential opportunities, refining concepts, communicating insights, and transforming promising ideas into actionable projects.

• Mentor fellow engineers and foster a culture of collaboration within the engineering team.

• Develop foundational technology for connected-home experiences and influence the technical direction of Resideo’s ecosystem.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in technology-driven environments.

• Practical software development experience in compiled languages such as Rust, C/C++, or Go.

• Software systems engineering expertise with a focus on creating foundational technology, including but not limited to databases, operating systems, compilers, networking, cybersecurity, or virtualization.

• Background in R&D, advanced development, prototyping, or similar exploratory technical settings.

• Excellent communication skills.

• Proven experience in transforming ideas from prototypes into market-ready products.

• Familiarity with or a strong desire to become highly skilled in Rust.

• Experience in designing or developing foundational software systems, infrastructure, runtimes, network stacks, or protocols.

• Knowledge in networking and network protocol development.

• Experience in cybersecurity or secure systems development.

• Familiarity with edge computing, distributed systems, or environments with resource constraints.

• Experience with knowledge graphs, ontologies, semantic technologies, or other methods of representing relationships among systems and data.

• Experience in developing or integrating intelligent agents or agent-based systems.

• Familiarity with Internet of Things technologies and ecosystems of connected devices.

• Experience with embedded Linux, including Yocto, or embedded RTOS environments.

• Experience with asynchronous programming.

• Familiarity with containers, WebAssembly, virtualization, or technologies for application portability.

• Comprehensive end-to-end platform development experience.

• Experience with software quality assurance, testing, version control, and continuous integration practices.

• Familiarity with a major cloud platform; Resideo utilizes Azure.

• History of learning from past architectural or technical methodologies and applying those insights to future system designs.

• Ability to navigate between exploration and execution while adapting processes as necessary.

• Self-motivated while engaging in team planning and technical discussions.
