Principal Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Take responsibility for the overall state of Wagmo's insurance provider interface.

• Develop a documented retirement strategy for legacy provider models and identify the appropriate timing for phasing out dual-write paths.

• Create a streamlined onboarding process for partners and carriers, enabling new benefits administrators to be added through configuration rather than application development.

• Set up file formats, renewal schedules, group structures, and product eligibility without the need for extensive coding for each integration.

• Conduct architectural reviews, hold decision-making authority, and maintain a reliable decision log.

• Define the identity architecture across enterprise Single Sign-On (SSO) tenants, the partner portal, and consumer authentication systems.

• Establish a documented and repeatable onboarding process tailored for enterprise security requirements.

• Manage the architecture of AI systems that support claims adjudication, customer service, and internal engineering tools.

• Create versioned prompts and strategies, promotion pathways, appropriate controls, and assess costs per automated decision.

• Mentor squad tech leads and elevate technical design standards without engaging in people management.

• Set the technical direction for insurance, claims, partner integration, and AI systems.

• Actively engage in the codebase and assist two squads in overcoming obstacles without escalation.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in making cross-domain architectural decisions and guiding them from ambiguity to a completed, documented result.

• Demonstrated success in retiring and scaling systems, including experience with partially migrated codebases operating in dual paths.

• Strong proficiency in Python and Django.

• Experience with relational data modeling.

• Background in large-scale third-party integrations.

• Experience deploying non-deterministic systems in production, with insights on evaluation and versioning.

• Ability to discern what not to build.

• Clarity in written and verbal communication to advocate for technical decisions.

• Experience in unblocking two squads without direct management of personnel.

• Familiarity with Kubernetes and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is advantageous.

• Background in insurance, benefits, payments, healthcare, or other regulated and integration-intensive sectors is highly beneficial.
