Principal Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Establish the technical direction across various products and platforms, encompassing AI infrastructure, data platforms, and shared primitives.

• Personally develop components and primitives that enhance leverage for other teams.

• Collaborate to define prompt libraries, MCP server patterns, AI-generated code quality gates, and human-agent collaboration patterns, while promoting their adoption.

• Design secure and governed Model Context Protocol integrations for internal APIs, data sources, and platform services.

• Lead decisions on build versus buy and drive alignment on strategic standards.

• Institutionalize prioritization mechanisms, AI launch checklists, and SLOs.

• Take charge of high-stakes one-way-door decisions and maintain contingency plans.

• Direct teams on ROI, focus, and success metrics for various domains.

• Standardize canonical metrics, AI evaluation frameworks, minimum sample sizes, and guardrail dashboards.

• Collaborate to establish responsible AI guardrails and review processes for high-risk use cases.

• Modernize legacy systems into scalable, cloud-native, agent-ready services.

• Define security patterns and collaborate with Risk, Security, and Compliance teams to protect sensitive member data.

• Mentor staff engineers and influence technical leadership norms across individual contributors.

• Balance partner demands with long-term member trust while supporting platforms that serve millions of travelers.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8 to 12 years of experience in full-stack development and architecture, including technical leadership that extends beyond a single team.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

• Recent hands-on experience in building and deploying working software within the last year or two.

• Advanced practical knowledge of AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot, including guiding them through larger multi-step tasks.

• Strong expertise in two or more of TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, and C#/.NET.

• Experience with modern frontend frameworks such as React, Next.js, Vue, or Angular.

• Extensive experience with RESTful API design, distributed systems, and microservices at scale.

• Proficiency in cloud-native delivery on AWS, Azure, or GCP, including multi-region or hybrid deployments.

• Hands-on experience with the Model Context Protocol, prompt engineering for code, and AI building blocks like Azure AI Foundry, RAG, LangChain, GraphRAG, or GraphDB.

• Practical experience with real-time streaming and distributed messaging technologies such as Redis, Kafka, or RabbitMQ.

• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, advanced CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and modern DevOps or SRE practices.

• Proven track record of mentoring senior engineers and enhancing standards through frameworks.

• Capability to convey complex AI and architectural concepts clearly to executives and non-technical stakeholders.
