Principal Project Governance Leader

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida, +4 more states.

📋 Description

• Oversee the global PMO Governance function at Avantor

• Create and uphold a global PMO operational model for a $150M annual Capex portfolio

• Set standards and frameworks for initiatives that are both high-priority and high-value

• Promote accountability, transparency, and delivery focused on outcomes

• Provide leadership, coaching, and capability enhancement for global and regional teams

• Establish and manage processes for global portfolio management and Capex investment planning

• Assist executive governance forums and investment committees with decisions driven by data

• Supervise resource and capacity planning for the Capex portfolio

• Maintain a comprehensive view of portfolio performance, value delivery, and interdependencies

• Define and uphold project lifecycle frameworks, including requirements for Gate 5c closure

• Monitor project performance in relation to approved baselines and business case commitments

• Validate KPIs, benefits, and strategic outcomes during Gate 5c closure

• Facilitate coordination across regions and manage global dependencies

• Implement project controls that encompass cost, schedule, scope, risk, and benefits

• Supervise the financial tracking, forecasting, and variance analysis of Capex

• Establish governance for benefits realization and provide executive reporting

• Define global needs for PMO and PPM tools, ensuring data integrity

• Integrate project, financial, and operational systems for comprehensive governance

• Establish standards for project documentation and maintain centralized repositories

• Ensure documentation is audit-ready and foster continuous improvement through lessons learned

• Enhance organizational capability through training and coaching on prioritization, delivery, and benefits realization

• Promote the adoption of global PMO standards and governance practices

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Project Management, or a related field

• 10+ years of increasing leadership experience within PMO

• Experience in chemical, life sciences, pharmaceutical, or similarly regulated industries

• Proven track record in leading global PMO organizations

• Experience in complex global settings with substantial capital investment responsibilities

• Extensive background in leading PMO functions within global, multi-regional organizations

• Demonstrated ability to manage enterprise Capex portfolios and prioritize strategic investments

• Strong knowledge in benefits realization management and validation of business cases

• Experience ensuring that projects achieve defined outcomes at closure, such as Gate 5c or an equivalent

• In-depth understanding of project controls, governance, and portfolio management

• Ability to influence senior leadership regarding prioritization and investment decisions

• Professional certifications like PMP, PgMP, PRINCE2, MSP, or Agile are preferred
