Principal ML Platform Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, construct, and enhance high-performance software systems while maintaining a robust personal technical presence.

• Lead strategic technological transformations and code refactoring initiatives to modernize and enhance the Appian codebase.

• Utilize AI coding tools for generating, reviewing, and critically assessing AI-assisted code.

• Facilitate technical story breakdowns, acceptance criteria, and architectural design across complex multi-tier application layers.

• Oversee availability, latency, scalability, and efficiency through reliability engineering and advanced system optimization.

• Advocate for development best practices, perform thorough code reviews, and create automation frameworks to prevent recurring issues.

• Guide and mentor engineers at various levels to bridge team skill gaps.

• Disseminate domain expertise across the department and produce high-quality engineering documentation.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or a related technical/analytical field; equivalent experience is not accepted in lieu of a degree.

• 10+ years of relevant software development experience with a BS, or 8+ years in conjunction with a Master of Science in Computer Science or a related discipline.

• Proficiency in coding, scripting, and debugging, particularly in Java, Python, or Go.

• Extensive knowledge of distributed systems and cloud infrastructure.

• Capability to contribute at a senior individual contributor level.

• Proven ability to influence technical decisions and shape engineering practices beyond a single team or project scope.

• Demonstrated experience utilizing AI coding assistants, mentoring others on, and selectively implementing AI-generated code in production environments.

• Established background in developing, optimizing, and sustaining a high-volume, mission-critical production service environment.

• Exceptional communication skills for articulating highly technical architectures verbally, visually, and in writing to diverse engineering audiences.

• Preferred: experience in designing microservices, Docker, Kubernetes, and modern CI/CD pipelines.

• Preferred: familiarity with AWS, Azure, and/or GCP.

• Experience with Salesforce or ServiceNow is valued.
