Principal Machine Learning Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +35 more states.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the strategy for recommendation and search personalization across various product surfaces, outlining the technical methodology, prioritizing experiments, and making decisions from offline assessments to real-world user impact.

• Design and develop comprehensive machine learning systems for ranking, retrieval, and personalization, encompassing data pipelines, feature engineering, model training and evaluation, and production serving infrastructure.

• Enhance relevance and ranking through meticulous evaluation and experimentation.

• Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to translate model behavior into product results, work together on integration, and ensure dependable production performance.

• Work alongside Data and Security teams to create a secure, scalable personalization architecture that addresses data access, privacy constraints, and operational needs.

• Provide mentorship to engineers, assist in the hiring process, and act as the internal expert on ranking and personalization.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in developing recommendation and/or search systems that function in a production environment at scale.

• Strong foundational knowledge in machine learning engineering, including ranking and retrieval, feature engineering, model training and evaluation, and practical deployment.

• Demonstrated ability to link model enhancements to quantifiable user and product outcomes through structured experimentation.

• Solid software engineering capabilities, including the development of reliable pipelines and services, maintainable code, and troubleshooting of complex distributed systems.

• Capacity to communicate effectively with Product and Engineering colleagues, clarify trade-offs, and align cross-functional teams.

• Legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship.

• Experience in health, fitness, or consumer-oriented recommendation platforms is preferred.
