Principal Kubernetes Control Plane Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Design and create scalable control plane architectures utilizing tools like Cluster API for comprehensive automation across fleets.

• Build custom Kubernetes Operators and Custom Resource Definitions (CRDs) to manage and orchestrate lifecycle processes.

• Enhance etcd performance while ensuring dependable state management across various distributed cloud regions.

• Establish secure, multi-tenant isolation methods at the API server level.

• Engineer zero-downtime upgrades and facilitate multi-cluster federation.

• Work alongside AI Scheduling and Fabric engineering teams to integrate the control plane with GPU orchestration layers.

• Lead design evaluations and mentor engineers in distributed systems architecture.

• Recognize and address control plane failure modes before they affect customer training or inference tasks.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.

• Over 8 years of experience in software engineering.

• Profound, hands-on knowledge in Go programming language.

• Significant experience contributing to or enhancing the Kubernetes ecosystem, including Operators, API Server, etcd, and Cluster API.

• Demonstrated success in operating, troubleshooting, and scaling large-scale distributed systems in production settings.

• In-depth understanding of multi-tenancy models, cluster federation, and API governance in cloud-native environments.

• Knowledge of infrastructure automation tools, such as Terraform and CI/CD pipelines.

• Experience with managed cloud services.

• Strong technical leadership abilities and capacity to influence architectural decisions while aligning cross-functional teams.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to convert complex system requirements into achievable engineering milestones.

• Experience in fast-paced, high-growth engineering environments is highly desirable.
