Principal Generalist Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Spain.

📋 Description

• Design and create dependable, scalable, and observable production-grade systems.

• Take ownership of systems from start to finish, encompassing problem definition, design, data management, implementation, deployment, and operations.

• Collaborate across application services, distributed systems, infrastructure, data pipelines, and machine learning systems.

• Troubleshoot complex production issues across various layers.

• Make engineering trade-offs based on first principles.

• Enhance performance, latency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.

• Contribute to architectural decisions and the technical direction of projects.

• Write maintainable code and comprehensive documentation.

• Elevate the standards of engineering practices.

• Determine when to implement machine learning as opposed to deterministic systems.

• Manage data throughout the entire process.

• Train, assess, and refine models.

• Create reproducible pipelines.

• Deploy models and oversee their performance, drift, and costs.

• Diagnose system and model failures.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong foundation in computer science principles (Data Structures and Algorithms, Operating Systems, networking, distributed systems).

• Solid understanding of probability and statistics.

• Experience in building production systems at scale.

• Proficiency in programming languages such as Go, Java, Python, Rust, and SQL.

• Insight into system behavior under load and during failures.

• Familiarity with Linux, containers, and Kubernetes.

• Excellent debugging capabilities.

• Ability to reason about invariants and potential failure modes.

• Knowledge of data systems, streaming technologies, machine learning infrastructure, and performance optimization.
