Principal Engineer – Substation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Oversee designated substation projects from initial conception to construction and commissioning.

• Assist in developing engineering requirements and scope during the conceptual phase.

• Report directly to the onsite manager.

• Manage major long-lead material orders to mitigate delays and budget risks.

• Provide support to Transmission Services in reviewing interconnection documentation, which includes system impact, facility, reactive and harmonic studies, as well as interconnection agreements.

• Train, conduct due diligence on, and offer technical oversight for external engineers of record.

• Ensure adherence to interconnection agreements, project specifications, site-specific design requirements, IEEE, NESC, ASCE, and other relevant standards.

• Coordinate substation site development, engineering updates, data management, and permitting processes.

• Maintain communication with transmission owners, operators, and ISOs to fulfill off-taker requirements.

• Collaborate with interdisciplinary project engineering teams on priorities, work plans, and boundaries of responsibility.

• Ensure that projects are executed efficiently, cost-effectively, and safely.

• Assist with project commissioning activities.

• Support Legal with regulatory filings, depositions, and hearings.

• Travel throughout North America as necessary.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil/Structural Engineering is preferred.

• A minimum of 7 years of experience in the design and engineering of High Voltage substation projects.

• Experience in Project Engineering and/or Project Management.

• PMP and/or P.E. certification in a related discipline is advantageous.

• Compliance with applicable U.S. and corresponding export control regulations, where relevant.
