Principal Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland, +3 more states.

📋 Description

• Define and enhance the target architecture for FuzeRx’s primary B2B and consumer platforms.

• Propel the technical roadmap to modernize legacy systems into scalable, cohesive architectures.

• Oversee the design and execution of technically demanding projects, including high-volume API integrations, pharmacy fulfillment logistics, and ensuring distributed data consistency.

• Guide and mentor Staff, Senior, and Mid-level engineers.

• Implement design reviews, pairing sessions, and technical brown-bag meetings.

• Establish and uphold standards for coding, testing, CI/CD, and security-by-design.

• Collaborate effectively with Product Management, Engineering Managers, and Pharmacy Operations.

• Partner with InfoSec to design systems that adhere to HIPAA and SOC2 compliance, safeguard patient data privacy, and enable secure messaging.

• Spearhead initiatives aimed at optimizing performance, minimizing latency, and enhancing the efficiency of PostgreSQL and AWS databases.

• Assess tools, frameworks, and AWS services through proof-of-concept evaluations.

• Act as a Tier 1 technical escalation point for critical architectural outages.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.

• Over 10 years of progressive, hands-on experience in software engineering and systems design.

• At least 3 years of experience in a Staff, Principal, or equivalent senior architectural role, leading technical initiatives across multiple teams.

• Significant experience in building and scaling distributed, high-throughput, and highly available B2B SaaS or transactional systems.

• Availability during standard business hours; expected to serve as a Tier 1 technical escalation point for critical architectural outages.

• Expertise in modern cloud architectures.

• In-depth, hands-on knowledge of AWS, PostgreSQL, Ruby on Rails, Python, TypeScript, and JavaScript.

• Familiarity with Slack, GSuite, and Jira.

• Excellent communication skills with the capability to convey complex technical trade-offs to non-technical executives and stakeholders.

• Demonstrated ability to design and implement intricate distributed systems, optimize complex relational database queries, and create automated deployment pipelines.

• Extensive domain knowledge in HealthTech, Digital Pharmacy, or highly regulated environments.

• Advanced understanding of healthcare data interoperability standards such as HL7, FHIR, and NCPDP.

• Experience with electronic health record (EHR) integrations.

• Proven track record of leading a significant architectural paradigm shift at scale.
