This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.
• Act as the principal software and AI technical authority for high-throughput screening capabilities within Cell & Genetic Medicines.
• Design and implement a scalable architecture that integrates laboratory automation, analytical instruments, enterprise systems, scientific data, and user workflows.
• Develop applications, APIs, data pipelines, computational tools, and user-friendly visualization solutions to facilitate cell therapy discovery.
• Create and deploy AI-enhanced functionalities, including machine learning, generative AI, retrieval-augmented generation, and agentic workflows.
• Identify and prioritize software and AI initiatives that enhance organizational effectiveness, scientific productivity, operational efficiency, and informed decision-making.
• Convert experimental processes and scientific inquiries into intuitive, maintainable, and reproducible digital solutions.
• Organize and contextualize screening data, constructing information, assay metadata, and analytical outputs.
• Enhance experimental planning, data quality, hit identification, candidate ranking, and knowledge retention.
• Establish engineering best practices covering architecture, development, testing, documentation, version control, deployment, observability, security, and lifecycle management.
• Foster cross-functional and cross-departmental collaborations across Discovery Research, IT, Business Technology, and other teams.
• Align stakeholders, clarify expectations, and communicate decisions, risks, trade-offs, and progress effectively.
• Shape technical direction without direct authority.
• Mentor scientists and engineers in software engineering, data architecture, and ethical AI practices.
• Create a connected, data-driven screening environment that supports reproducible experiments and therapeutic candidate selection.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, data science, computational biology, bioinformatics, engineering, or a related technical field, along with substantial relevant industry experience.
• Extensive experience in designing and delivering complex software systems within scientific, engineering, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or similarly data-intensive settings.
• Proven experience in integrating AI/ML or generative AI models into functional, production-quality software systems.
• Proficiency with Amazon Web Services (AWS), including provisioning and managing compute instances, as well as working with Amazon S3 buckets for secure data storage, access, and transfer.
• Strong systems thinking capability, with the ability to understand scientific workflows and translate user requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and relationship-building capabilities.
• Ability to manage projects and expectations across organizational boundaries.
• Effectiveness in highly collaborative, multidisciplinary teams.
• Willingness to travel approximately 10–15% annually.
• Preferred: advanced degree.
• Preferred: experience in drug discovery, cell therapy, functional genomics, high-throughput screening, or laboratory automation.
• Preferred: experience in integrating robotic systems, analytical instruments, and automated data-generation platforms.
• Preferred: familiarity with high-dimensional biological datasets, FAIR data principles, scientific metadata standards, data governance, and regulated or highly controlled technology environments.
• Preferred: experience in developing scientific applications, visualization tools, knowledge systems, workflow orchestration, or AI agents.
• Preferred: hands-on experience with electronic laboratory notebook software, particularly Benchling.
• Preferred: experience embedded within laboratory-facing organizations and collaborating directly with experimental scientists.
