Principal DevOps Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Poland.

📋 Description

• Architect and create the AWS infrastructure and delivery platform for an innovative gaming platform.

• Develop the AWS foundation from the ground up, encompassing multi-account architecture, landing zones, VPC/networking, IAM strategies, and cost governance.

• Construct and manage the container platform utilizing Amazon EKS, implementing service mesh, autoscaling, and ensuring resilience across multiple Availability Zones and regions.

• Specify infrastructure as code through Terraform and facilitate GitOps delivery using Argo CD or equivalent tools.

• Implement observability through metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting; promote SLO-driven reliability utilizing error budgets.

• Take ownership of production readiness, which includes incident response, on-call design, runbooks, chaos/load testing, and conducting blameless postmortems.

• Develop infrastructure for migrating from the existing third-party platform, incorporating dual-running environments, data migration pipelines, and cutover processes.

• Integrate compliance through audit trails, environment segregation, backup/disaster recovery, and controls focused on regulatory requirements.

• Provision and manage infrastructure to support AI-assisted development, integrating AI tools into DevOps workflows.

• Guide and mentor engineers across various teams while establishing organization-wide cloud-native and operational standards.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in DevOps, platform, or infrastructure engineering, including a minimum of 3 years at a staff/principal level with broad organizational influence.

• Extensive hands-on experience with AWS services: EKS, EC2, RDS/Aurora, networking (VPC, Transit Gateway, Route 53), IAM at scale, and multi-account architectures.

• Proficient in infrastructure as code using Terraform.

• Strong operational expertise in Kubernetes: day-2 operations, upgrades, capacity management, and cost optimization.

• Proven ability to build CI/CD and developer platforms that engineering teams willingly adopt, focusing on golden paths rather than gatekeeping.

• Experienced in observability practices and SLO/error-budget management (using tools such as Prometheus/Grafana, OpenTelemetry, CloudWatch).

• Background in operating high-availability, high-throughput production systems that handle real traffic spikes, with documented playbooks from actual incidents.

• Strong scripting/programming skills (Python, Go, or Bash) and the ability to read application code comfortably.

• Experience in designing backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity strategies for systems where data loss is intolerable.

• Excellent verbal and written English skills; able to clearly communicate platform decisions to both engineers and executives.

• AWS certifications such as Solutions Architect Professional or DevOps Professional are advantageous.

• Practical experience with AI coding tools (such as Claude Code, Codex) for infrastructure, pipeline, and ops automation is a significant plus.

• Knowledge in security engineering, including cloud security posture management, secrets management (e.g., Vault), vulnerability management, SAST/DAST/SCA in CI/CD, and compliance with ISO 27001, SOC 2, and PCI DSS.

• Familiarity with iGaming, sports betting, fintech, or other regulated, high-transaction-volume sectors.

• Experience in migrating from a third-party vendor platform.

• Competence in event-streaming infrastructure (Kafka/MSK) and large-scale database operations.

• Proficiency in Polish and/or Spanish is a bonus.
