Principal Consultant – On Call

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida.

📋 Description

• Act as the key subject matter expert in biochemical processes.

• Assess designs for biofuel, renewable chemicals, and hydrogen production systems.

• Lead the development of scoping and feasibility studies.

• Write design bases, develop process simulations, generate equipment lists and layout drawings, and provide FEL-1 and FEL-2 package services.

• Review and enhance capital and operating cost evaluations.

• Generate Class V cost estimates utilizing vendor quotes, public resources, and spreadsheet calculations.

• Compile technology sections for due diligence reports utilized in project financing.

• Travel to project locations to manage pilot or demonstration facilities.

• Oversee construction progress and perform performance tests for new commercial facilities.

• Offer technical leadership for alcohol-to-jet, renewable diesel, ethanol, and various renewable fuel technologies.

• Evaluate process risks and costs associated with oligomerization, hydrotreating, fermentation, and other technology routes.

• Direct engineering evaluations of hydrogen production through SMR, thermal processes, and electrolysis.

• Provide technical guidance for renewable natural gas technologies, including landfill gas collection systems, anaerobic digesters, and gas purification systems.

• Manage independent engineering or owner’s advisory projects.

• Collaborate with clients, coordinate ICF teams, and supervise project financials and reporting.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in chemical or mechanical engineering or a related field, emphasizing renewable and conventional fuels.

• Over 20 years of experience in a technical capacity, including a primary or leading role in the design and construction of biofuel or biochemical projects.

• Must be a US Citizen.

• Experience in process design, product standards, equipment selection, and methods for process energy efficiency.

• Familiarity with the relationship between process performance, operating costs, and project financial feasibility.

• Preferred: Over 25 years of experience in a technical role.

• Preferred: Advanced engineering degree.

• Preferred: Professional Engineering license.

• Preferred: Previous experience at a refinery or petrochemical facility.

• Preferred: Experience with an EPC contractor or detailed engineering firm.

• Preferred: Experience in FEL-1, FEL-2, and FEL-3 projects.

• Preferred: Experience in remote work settings or organizations.

• Preferred: Background in technical due diligence for project financing.

• Preferred: Knowledge of Carbon Intensity calculations and methodologies, such as Cal-GREET, ANL-GREET, Corsia, and Open LCA.

• Preferred: Understanding of water and wastewater treatment systems.

• Preferred: Familiarity with thermochemical systems including pyrolysis, hydrotreating, and gasification.

• Preferred: Excellent communication skills to effectively convey technical concepts to varied audiences.

• Preferred: Willingness to learn about emerging technologies, validate conceptual designs, and evaluate feasibility.
