Principal Consultant – On Call

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida.

📋 Description

• Act as the key subject matter authority in biochemical processes, offering insights into innovations and industry best practices.

• Assess designs for biofuel, renewable chemical, and hydrogen production systems in relation to product specifications and financial metrics for projects.

• Lead scoping and feasibility assessments.

• Write design bases, generate process simulations, compile equipment lists and layout drawings, and deliver FEL-1 and FEL-2 package services.

• Review and enhance capital and operational cost evaluations.

• Develop Class V cost estimates using vendor quotes, public information, and spreadsheet analyses.

• Prepare technology sections for due diligence reports utilized in project financing.

• Travel to project sites to supervise pilot or demonstration facilities, track construction progress, and conduct performance evaluations.

• Offer technical leadership in alcohol-to-jet, renewable diesel, ethanol, and other renewable fuel technologies.

• Evaluate process risks and costs associated with oligomerization, hydrotreating, fermentation, and various technology pathways.

• Analyze hydrogen production methods, including SMR, thermal production, and electrolysis.

• Provide technical guidance for renewable natural gas technologies, encompassing landfill gas collection systems, anaerobic digesters, and gas purification systems.

• Oversee independent engineering or owner's advisory projects.

• Collaborate with clients, coordinate ICF teams, and manage project finances and reporting.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering, or a related discipline with an emphasis on renewable and conventional fuels.

• Over 20 years of experience in a technical capacity, including primary or lead roles in the design and construction of biofuel or biochemical projects.

• US Citizenship is required.

• Proficient in process design, product standards, equipment selection, and methods for enhancing process energy efficiency.

• Familiarity with the relationship between process performance, operating costs, and the financial viability of projects.

• Preferred: At least 25 years of experience in a technical role.

• Preferred: An advanced degree in engineering.

• Preferred: A Professional Engineering license.

• Preferred: Previous experience in a refinery or petrochemical facility.

• Preferred: Experience with an EPC contractor or detailed engineering firm.

• Preferred: Experience working on FEL-1, FEL-2, and FEL-3 projects.

• Preferred: Experience in remote work environments or organizations.

• Preferred: Background in technical due diligence for project financing.

• Preferred: Understanding of Carbon Intensity calculations and methodologies, including Cal-GREET, ANL-GREET, Corsia, and Open LCA.

• Preferred: Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment systems.

• Preferred: Familiarity with thermochemical processes such as pyrolysis, hydrotreating, and gasification.

• Preferred: Strong communication skills to effectively convey technical concepts to a diverse audience.

• Preferred: A willingness to learn about emerging technologies, validate conceptual designs, and evaluate feasibility.
