Principal AI Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Define the strategic direction and advancement of Vuori's AI platform and technical standards.

• Enhance engineering capabilities through collaborative reviews, pairing, and the development of reusable tools.

• Make informed build-versus-buy decisions that shape the AI platform's future.

• Establish industry best practices for AI development, including testing, evaluation, monitoring, observability, and reliability.

• Implement governance frameworks, security measures, and guidelines for responsible and trustworthy AI solutions.

• Design, construct, and deploy AI-driven applications, intelligent agents, and automated workflows.

• Develop systems that utilize planning, reasoning, memory, and tool usage to automate and enhance complex business processes.

• Integrate LLMs, enterprise data sources, APIs, and business systems into comprehensive AI experiences.

• Build and maintain scalable architectures for agent orchestration, RAG, and knowledge retrieval.

• Prototype new AI capabilities and convert concepts into production-ready solutions.

• Collaborate with business and technology leaders to identify high-value AI opportunities.

• Monitor solution performance, assess business impact, and continuously enhance outcomes through data and feedback.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience preferred.

• Over 10 years of experience in software engineering.

• More than 2 years of experience in building and operating production AI systems.

• Proven experience in developing and managing agentic systems in production settings, including aspects of planning, reasoning, memory, and tool-calling.

• Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing AI evaluation frameworks, testing methodologies, and production monitoring practices.

• Strong proficiency in Python programming.

• Experience in creating APIs, backend services, and cloud-native applications.

• Extensive experience with modern LLM platforms and orchestration frameworks.

• Familiarity with integrating AI systems with enterprise APIs, databases, SaaS platforms, and business systems.

• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

• Experience with RAG architectures, vector databases, embeddings, and enterprise knowledge retrieval systems.

• Experience with low-code and pro-code enterprise AI platforms like Azure AI Foundry, Google Gemini Enterprise, Microsoft Agent 365, or Copilot Studio.

• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform.

• Experience with AI observability, governance, security, and compliance frameworks.

• Knowledge of MLOps, model lifecycle management, and AI deployment pipelines.

• Background in retail, direct-to-consumer, e-commerce, or similar consumer-facing environments.

• A demonstrated passion for emerging AI technologies and applied innovation.
