Senior AI Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Develop and deploy production-grade AI functionalities from inception to completion, encompassing the extraction and validation of insurance document data, ensuring coverage aligns with contract stipulations, and creating AI assistants and agents.

• Architect LLM pipelines and integrations that involve prompting, structured outputs, tool utilization, and retrieval across Python/FastAPI backend services and React/TypeScript frontends.

• Construct evaluation datasets and automated verification measures to assess accuracy, identify regressions, and enhance model outputs.

• Oversee AI quality, performance latency, and cost in a production environment.

• Utilize AI development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot for coding, refactoring, generating tests, prototyping, and documenting, while reviewing and validating the work that has been deployed.

• Create rapid prototypes for novel AI functionalities, refining and solidifying them for production readiness.

• Examine raw customer documents, data, edge cases, and API specifications for insights.

• Make practical technical choices that prioritize stability, security, and return on investment.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience at a senior level in developing production web applications.

• Proficient in Python (FastAPI).

• Familiarity with React, TypeScript, Next.js, and PostgreSQL.

• Proven experience in delivering LLM-powered functionalities to production, including prompt design, structured outputs, tool usage, agents, and retrieval.

• Skilled in evaluating AI output through the creation of test sets, accuracy measurement, and managing hallucinations and low-confidence results.

• Experience in extracting structured data from unstructured documents (PDFs, scanned forms) is highly advantageous.

• Expertise in AI coding assistants and agents, along with a systematic approach for reviewing and validating their outputs.

• Capability to rapidly grasp a complex, regulation-intensive B2B sector; prior experience in insurance is a plus.

• Dedication to engineering standards, maintainability, and security.

• Ability to excel in a lean, dynamic environment and take ownership of features from conception to deployment with minimal oversight.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills; adept at conveying AI trade-offs and limitations to product and business stakeholders and proactively identifying risks.
