Power BI Architect

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.

📋 Description

• Design and uphold the architecture for enterprise Power BI solutions, which encompasses datasets, semantic models, reports, workspaces, security, and deployment standards.

• Create scalable and reusable semantic/data models by utilizing dimensional modeling and best practices in Power BI modeling.

• Develop and assess advanced DAX calculations, measures, calculation logic, and intricate business KPIs.

• Architect and enhance data ingestion and transformation processes employing Power Query, SQL, and various enterprise data sources.

• Conduct performance analysis, troubleshooting, and optimization of Power BI reports, datasets, DAX queries, refresh processes, and semantic models.

• Establish Power BI Service standards and best practices for workspace architecture, administration, governance, capacity utilization, and report lifecycle management.

• Design and implement security frameworks, including Row-Level Security (RLS), access controls, workspace permissions, and data governance requirements.

• Define strategies for deployment, release management, and environment management across development, testing, and production phases.

• Set development standards concerning Power BI Project (PBIP), Git-based source control, versioning, branching, and collaborative development.

• Facilitate CI/CD and automated deployment practices for Power BI solutions.

• Review current Power BI environments and pinpoint opportunities for standardization, consolidation, scalability, and performance enhancements.

• Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to comprehend analytics needs and convert them into scalable technical solutions.

• Offer architectural guidance, technical reviews, and best-practice suggestions to Power BI developers and analytics teams.

• Contribute to the comprehensive BI and analytics strategy, governance framework, and technological roadmap.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive hands-on experience with Microsoft Power BI in large-scale enterprise settings.

• Advanced proficiency in data modeling and the architecture of semantic models.

• Expert-level understanding of DAX, including complex calculations and performance tuning.

• Significant hands-on experience with Power Query / M.

• Advanced SQL proficiency and experience integrating data from a variety of enterprise data sources.

• Strong knowledge of dimensional modeling, star schemas, relationships, cardinality, and model optimization.

• Demonstrated experience in tuning Power BI performance, which includes DAX optimization, model size reduction, refresh optimization, and troubleshooting.

• In-depth understanding of Power BI Service, encompassing workspaces, apps, gateways, dataset/semantic model management, capacity management, refresh strategies, governance, and administration.

• Experience in implementing Row-Level Security (RLS) and enterprise data access controls.

• Comprehensive understanding of Power BI governance, security, compliance, and lifecycle management.

• Experience in designing deployment and release strategies for enterprise Power BI solutions.

• Hands-on experience with Power BI Project (PBIP).

• Familiarity with Git, source control, branching, versioning, and collaborative Power BI development.

• Understanding of CI/CD and DevOps practices within a Power BI/analytics context.

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

• Capability to communicate effectively with both business and technical stakeholders.

• Nice to have: Experience with Microsoft Fabric.

• Nice to have: Experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Lake, or Databricks.

• Nice to have: Knowledge of Tabular Editor, DAX Studio, Performance Analyzer, and VertiPaq Analyzer.

• Nice to have: Experience with XMLA endpoints and automation of semantic models.

• Nice to have: Familiarity with Power BI REST APIs and administrative automation.

• Nice to have: Experience in establishing Power BI Centers of Excellence, governance frameworks, or enterprise BI standards.

• Nice to have: Experience working in a large, global, and highly regulated enterprise environment.
