This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom, +3 more countries.
• Take charge of architectural decisions that dictate how features are developed, securely launched to customers, and maintained over the long term.
• Guide engineers through code evaluations and collaborative design efforts.
• Spearhead projects spanning multiple quarters and decompose intricate problems into progressively validated milestones.
• Establish success metrics, make necessary trade-offs, and escalate issues to leadership when required.
• Collaborate with leadership on the technical roadmap and strategic direction.
• Question requirements, suggest alternatives, and influence the development timeline and priorities.
• Ensure the operational health of systems is maintained.
• Leverage data to inform decisions related to iteration, maintenance, and deprecation.
• Set the technical course for the designated area.
• Anticipate technical challenges that may arise in the next 12+ months and propose scalable solutions.
• Enhance engineering capabilities that boost developer efficiency and quality at Synthesia, an AI video platform for businesses.
• A minimum of seven (7) years of experience as a software engineer.
• At least 2–3 years of experience at a senior or staff level.
• Practical experience in creating and managing developer platforms, CI/CD systems, observability/metrics infrastructure, code quality automation, testing infrastructure, and/or developer tools.
• Proven history of delivering infrastructure or tools that significantly enhanced developer productivity or reduced cognitive burden.
• Experience in driving the adoption of AI-enhanced developer tools or capabilities within an engineering organization.
• Background in a high-performing engineering environment.
• Familiarity with integrating third-party services, APIs, SaaS tools, and external platforms into internal systems.
• Knowledge of reliability, security, user experience, and operational constraints at scale.
• Experience managing large technical areas from start to finish.
• Proficiency in Python implementation exercises.
• Legal authorization to work in the specified country; visa sponsorship is limited to candidates who are already in the UK/EU.
• Commitment to full-time work; contractors will not be considered.
