Platform Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Operate and troubleshoot the AWS-based production platform for Kahootz.

• Monitor the health, availability, capacity, and performance of services utilizing AWS CloudWatch, Monit, and various observability tools.

• Investigate and resolve incidents across AWS services such as EC2, RDS, IAM, and networking.

• Deploy and validate updates, patches, and production changes through controlled and auditable processes.

• Create and maintain scripts, runbooks, and operational documentation.

• Diagnose recurring issues in collaboration with support, R&D, and DevOps colleagues, and implement permanent solutions.

• Enhance platform components to boost reliability, maintainability, scalability, and cost efficiency.

• Develop infrastructure-as-code and automated deployment patterns for consistent environments.

• Lead initiatives for containerization and modernization, including the use of Kubernetes where applicable.

• Adapt and deploy platform capabilities to cater to specialized projects and new markets.

• Evaluate architecture changes and integrations, providing advice on secure and supportable designs.

• Address security vulnerabilities and incidents while coordinating remediation efforts.

• Maintain technical controls and documentation that support compliance certifications and customer assurance.

• Contribute to certifications, audits, and security reviews.

• Enhance and test business continuity and disaster recovery plans.

⛳️ Requirements

• Candidates must be based in the UK and eligible for UK security clearance.

• A degree in computer science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

• Strong analytical abilities and structured problem-solving skills.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the capacity to clarify technical decisions.

• Capability to manage competing priorities and work efficiently in a small, collaborative team.

• Solid understanding of software delivery lifecycles, SaaS operations, and DevOps practices.

• Knowledge of secure engineering, operational risk, and compliance principles.

• Familiarity with GitHub and Jira.

• A sense of curiosity, sound judgment, and a willingness to learn, including the responsible use of automation and AI tools.

• Hands-on experience in operating and troubleshooting production workloads in AWS.

• Strong understanding of Linux systems, networking principles and protocols, and cloud infrastructure.

• Practical experience with Route53, EC2, RDS, S3, EFS, ECS, ACM, and WAF.

• Scripting and coding abilities in Bash, Ansible, Python, or a similar language.

• Experience with infrastructure as code, configuration management, and CI/CD pipelines; Terraform is preferred.

• Familiarity with container workflows and Kubernetes deployments.

• Experience in monitoring, logging, and incident, problem, or change-management practices.

• Exposure to security, compliance, and vulnerability management tools such as CrowdStrike, Rapid7, and SecurityScorecard.

• Experience in a SaaS or software delivery environment is advantageous.

• Experience working effectively in a remote or distributed team is a plus.
